No, that's not how it works.

I tip, generously, provided their performance calls for it. I do it out of appreciation for their effort and presence.

A part of the job description is being friendly, courteous and efficient. If these are qualifications you cannot meet, choose a different line of work. It's that simple. The energy or lack there of is coming in my space of leisure and food, don't expect more than what you're putting forth.

If you want that juicy tip, work for it. Many of us will make note of it and show our appreciation.

This is one of the things that's wrong with this country. Everybody expecting extra shit for doin wtf they're supposed to do. I just got back from Germany, I was tippin left and right and people were not expecting that shit at all and I always received good service. I finally asked a German colleague and he stated the general rule is everything is already included in the price. Also, I guess the pay is structured different as well.

But since these crybabies keep bitchin about how much we consumers tip, we should all stop patronizing their businesses.

i i tip. and sometimes i'll give like a $25 or $50 tip on a really small bill just to be nice, especially if they have a heartwarming story. I'm sure it makes their day and restores whatever hope they had lost in humanity thanks to people like you. And truth be told, i've never done that. but if i did, i imagine that is how they would feel.
