Could've sworn they were distrubuted by Sony. And this album was gonna be distrubuted by Universal. But ok.

Sony and Columbia merged years ago and it's possible for two labels to support 1 project. I'm sure Sony and Universal does the same shit for Nas's projects.

the no leaking shit really not that impressive if they giving it to itunes first. and far from groundbreaking. lil b did the same shit with his album. it works for these two because they're popular enough and have the resources. let j cole release his album only on itunes for damn near the first week and watch that shit brick HARD.

Exactly. People going on like this is some new, groundbreaking method or something. Radiohead went and announced a new album earlier this year out the blue. About a week later the album was released by them (earlier than they announced) with no leaks. Again see In Rainbows. Trent Reznor's done the same releasing albums digitally with no leaking albums and he's said for years the way to release music is digitally, etc. etc. Dance and Electronic artists a lot of the time are just pumping tracks out digitally instead of bothering with vinyl.

The thing is if you're as big an artist as someone as Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails or Jay-Z and Kanye West who can turn an album release into an event then you can afford to not bother recording in studios and then piss off the retailers off by making them wait for physical copies. People like J.Cole, Melanie Fiona or anyone on Roc Nation can't do that because they're not established, they can't afford to prevent studio leaks by jetting around the world and record in mansions and expensive hotels and they can't afford to piss off retailers. They need to get their music out there as soon as they can in as many formats as the public demands. Fuck knows what the original poster is even going on about. I swear people on here just chat shit for the sheer sake of it.

Making sure the album doesn't leak is what all artists deep down want. Niggas albums be leaking days before they even hit the stores, shit like that is why wanting to even make an album seems pointless now.

Dropping that shit digitally is genius, and I applaud Jay and Ye for doing that. I'll definitely be getting my copy in the stores once it drops.
