I think if people actually stripped away the hot beats and ignored the image of this "east coast savior" and judged Biggie just based on what he spit, more people would start to realize just how subpar Biggie was a lyricist. It was only a notch above mediocrity.

He definitely had talent, which mainly consisted of him being able to make songs that crossed over...like a Lil' Wayne, before there was a Lil' Wayne. But he was nowhere near the best, or even one of the best. He was just a marketing department's dream child that was able to sell records and had the biggest snake in the industry as his co-signer.
