Ay why did obi disappear when Vader cut him down?

In the Expanded Universe novels it is shown that most Jedi do NOT disappear upon death. Those who do have 'become One with the Force'.

It is implied that only those who disappear can re-appear as Force Ghosts, but Vader seems to invalidate this (EDIT: Correction - Vader's organic body DID disappear, what was burned was just his suit - see the section on his death, near the bottom.). A better theory is that learning how to become a Force Ghost - a technique Qui-Gonn is said to have rediscovered enables a Jedi who is prepared for death to disappear upon their physical form dying.

To disappear upon death requires great strength in the Force (equivalent to a Jedi Master), great wisdom and understanding of its ways, and for the person who dies to be at peace.

Lupita Nyong'o has apparently had several of her scenes cut down in the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The actress, who won an Academy Award for her performance in 12 Years A Slave, stars in the upcoming blockbuster as Maz Kanata.

But director JJ Abrams reportedly wasn't impressed by her performance and has been forced to cut several of her scenes down in the final edit.

According to The Sun, he was left unconvinced by what he saw and ordered for Lupita's dialogue to be re-recorded.

A source told the paper: "The CGI seemed to be what Lupita struggled with, perhaps because it meant she felt less of a connection to the character.

"There was a general sense that something wasn’t working so a lot of her scenes ended up being either re-worked or cut. Unfortunately she just didn’t end up delivering.

Besides, trailers aren't definitive of the final product, and actors get changed at the last minute quite often.

Word to the new Fantastic Four and when Terrance Howard got replaced in the Iron Man franchise.

EXCLUSIVE: J.J. Abrams slams rumors he cut down Lupita’s ‘Star Wars’ role

J.J. Abrams is shooting down rumors he’s axed several of Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o’s scenes from “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” because her performance was subpar.

UK paper The Sun said Nyong’o’s “role has been massively cut in the finished edit” and that “there was a general sense that something wasn’t working so a lot of her scenes ended up being either reworked or cut.”

But Abrams told Page Six in a statement: “The number of rumors floating around about ‘The Force Awakens’ is truly stunning. Some are wonderfully funny, others simply preposterous. But the only one more ridiculous than Jar Jar Binks being a Sith Lord is that I cut Lupita Nyong’o’s performance because it wasn’t satisfactory.”

The director added: “In truth, her performance wasn’t satisfactory. It was spectacular. She has brought the character of Maz Kanata to life in the most wonderful, wise, touching, deep and funny way. Lupita never ceased to amaze me. Yes, we tried many approaches, and we finally landed on just what the film needed. She elevated all the scenes she is in, I’m forever grateful, and can’t wait for people to see her stunning performance.”

An insider added: “The movie hasn’t been screened, so no one, including Lupita, has seen it.”
