Ya'll silly ass niggas are still focus on the radio shit, how did that work out for Wacka's album sales, how did that work out for Gucci Mane, the New Boyz, etc and all these niggas who had hit singles. You know who didn't have hit records, Cudi, Lupe, etc and you know who's album still sold.

Ya'll are so damn caught up in the perception of what makes something successful, when a fanbase is more important than all those things (radio or tv) ya'll harp on.

Would you rather be a artist like Lupe or be someone like a Wacka? Wacka is only gonna be hot for so long, trust me, like Lil Jon, Nelly, Ying Yang, etc were only hot for so long.

kid cudi had a hit single with day n nite that crossed him over in the first place, so did lupe with superstar. j cole is a new artist that most people outside of the hip hop circel dont know about. cole seems to have a solid fanbase in place he just needs a hit to make the labels want to invest in his album.

Wacka has a hit single, and a album that's at 250,000, he just did Summer-Jam in front of 50,000. He ain't the most skilled but he has his lane and he's maximizing his talents.

Wacka has his own niche as the hi-energy new-crunk rapper that can get the club hype, J.Cole has yet to distinguish himself in the midst of his peers.

I agree with my friend Jamacia.

His second album had no hit singles and still did around gold. Lupes first album had no hit song and still sold pretty well, the point is niggas bitch and complain all day about how shitty radio is and yet they still justify good music and success on whether or not an artist makes radio music. What happened to making the music you want to make, then forcing the radio to play your shit?

Niggas just be talking that nonsense sometimes, which is it, CHASE RADIO or MAKE RADIO CHASE YOU. Is it good music isn't justified by radio or you need radio for justification?

we have to set a precedent for what is considered a flop for j cole. so if he debuted selling 60-90k is that a flop?

cudi built up a solid fanbase bre and afteefor day n nite came out, you really think if it weren't for day n nite that cudi would have released his first album? lupe had a hit with i gotcha and daydreamin and not to mention he built up a buzz with kick push and for awhile he had that skater image.

getting play on the radio is apart of promotion though. especially for a new artist who many people dont know about.

Lupe had no hit singles, sold around 500 K, performed infront of MTV Movie Awards (millions) and consistently tours across the globe. I'll take a Lupe career over a microwave Wacka career any damn day, ole flavor of the week nigga.

J Cole hasn't distinguished himself from his peers, but Wacka has? Yeah right, i guess rapping over Lex Luger type beats is distinguishable nowadays

Day and Night came out way before Cudi even dropped his album and he didn't even have a follow up hit. Day and Night didn't established his fanbase, Cudi managed to tap into the emo side of mainstream America and that's why he is popular.

I gotcha and day dreamin are not hits nigga, stop fucking reaching and neither is kick push.

Radio isn't the only way for promotion, especially nowadays with the internet and other sources. This ain't the fucking 1990's!

day and nite crossed him over which in turn helped him gain more fans. i didn't know about kudi until the day n nite remix with jim jones. however the success of day n nite did not hurt cudi at all, it was an asset. and not to mention kudi has been on tour and built up a fanbase over the years that are obviously very loyal.

i gotcha was a minor hit

http://www.billboard.com/#/song/lupe-fiasco/i-gotcha/8292634

so was daydreamin

http://www.billboard.com/#/song/lupe-fiasco/daydreamin/8292638

and kick push drew him to an audience that to this day still supports lupe.

having your song played on the radio is a sure fire way (especially for a new artist) to gain buzz.
