This album is dope. I guess my expectations for drake aren't too much. I definitely didn't expect him to push the envelope a la Kendrick but this album is refreshing sonically which is impressive being that it's easy for artist to become lazy after a couple album

Big Sean was lacking on his first album. Compare his and Cole first albums, Coles was ahead of him as a mc. You can't fault Cole for not showing as much growth as Sean. Sean just catching up to what Cole was doing years ago. And Cole doesn't have a classic? Artist like Redman and Spitta don't necessarily grow as artist (although Redman did between his first and second albums) but they give you extremely solid work. Can we say that about Drake at this point of his career?

J.Cole doesn't have a classic album, I'm not even trying to be an asshole but this is what I'm talking about on the Reason. Niggas WILL create the scenario to fit the narrative because they just don't like a muthafucka. Sideline Story was meh, Born Sinner was lukewarm, FHD was dope, 4YEO was alright but they aren't classic or groundbreaking. Big Sean has grown way more than Cole has at this point in his career and has even stepped outside the box (Twenty88) vs. Cole.

You can argue that yes Drake has a solid body of work at this point in his career and contrast it to Redman and Spitta if you want. SFG, TML, TC, NWTS, IYRTITL, WATTBA, ML the nigga is solid man. It's not a matter of whether or not Drake has a classic or not, niggas will say J.Cole has one over Drake just out of spite and bias.

This is all a deflection. All of this is opinion and None of this is relevant to Drake's lack of artistic growth

It's not a deflection I'm not saying Drake has grown more than another artist, etc. Because really bias gets in the way and you can make an argument for both in that topic. I'm saying that Drake is held to higher expectations than a lot of his peers such as J.Cole and others because niggas don't like him.
