But this is a huge step in the right direction for the Cubs, Now after Epstein goes there I wonder if Francona will follow him there.

Im still pissed he was out there but the Sox went with Ventura, these idiots even thought about making Konerko a player-manager

lmao I read about that earlier.....honestly I highly doubt Francona would've taken that job, they're a team that should be in rebuild mode that is tryna win now so they gonna be stuck in mediocrity....the Cubs are a rebuilding job in a ripe stage nh where you can start tryna buy players out and trade your best players for young guys so that job is probably more appealing especially since Cubs aint win a rang in a million years and this could be the time of change and he can be there for it

but I honestly do think Ventura could be good for them, but it's all gonna come down to whether or not they have a good start to next year especially if he makes a rookie mistake or 2 the veterans in that locker room might be ready to knock him out but it seems like he has the players respect so thats always a good start.

SMFH.. Suicide Watch if Buehrle leaves..

Sox Will Let Buehrle Field Other Offers

(CBS) Now that their manager is locked down, the fate of veteran left-hander Mark Buehrle will come into the White Sox’s focus.

Buehrle, a 12-year veteran, is an unrestricted free agent. He’s been the ace of the club’s staff for years, and replacing him won’t be easy.

“Listen, whenever it is, when Mark Buehrle leaves, you’re going to have a void,” general manager Ken Williams said. “I’m not just talking about the player standpoint, but who he is, what he is, all the peripheral things. You can’t ask for a better guy performance wise and non-performance wise.”

Williams made it clear the team won’t offer a contract to Buehrle before he has a chance to shop the market — something that could easily drive his price right out of Chicago’s budget.

The market has to tell us what he’s going to command,” Williams said. “And we’ll look into it then to see if it fits into our planning and budget.”

Over 12 season in Chicago, Buehrle is 161-119 with a 3.83 ERA, including a no-hitter and a perfect game.

the bolded meaning Kenny will be too cheap to re-sign him.

meanwhile..

Pitchers Jon Lester(notes), John Lackey

(notes) and

Josh Beckett(notes) (pictured above) were indifferent and had an "anemic" work ethic, as well as "a habit" of

drinking beer, eating fried chicken and playing video games in the clubhouse during games. When a team trainer suggested the trio were getting out of shape, his concerns were quickly brushed aside.

Manager Terry Francona struggled with personal problems relating to his marriage and health all season and was ineffective when trying to rein in the clubhouse culture.

The team was angry at ownership for the scheduling of a day-night doubleheader against the Oakland A's so any conflicts with Hurricane Irene could be avoided. The Red Sox won both games, but it was the last two-game winning streak of the season.

Pretty much every player outside of Dustin Pedroia(notes) and Jonathan Papelbon

(notes) did not exhibit any signs

of leadership as the year crumbled around them.

The article is making plenty of waves, even among all the Theo Epstein-to-Chicago news, and it's easy to see why. Most postmortems usually don't contain the type of ax-grinding details found in this one. Then again, most teams don't collapse like the Red Sox did. Most media bases would've stopped looking for someone to blame two weeks after the fact.
