I agree and disagree. You sound a little too pessimistic, even for me. I think that good, competent people can be elected and can be productive. The only problem is that it takes a sharp and well-informed society to make that happen, and most of the general public is anything but sharp and well-informed. So it is are fault, at least partly. Add to the fact that the hurdles of money, big corporations, media, useless incumbent politicians, etc., are sometimes too much to overcome.
