Man, mashing together all of those franchises was unheard of back then, the anticipation was killing me. Buying Nintendo power every month for the small details about the shit. Nintendo is the undisputed 1st party games GOAT.... where Sony tore them a new one was 3rd party support and graphics. But game play and innovation? been had shit on lock.

My least favorite Nintendo system.

No Metroid or RPG's or fighting games.

Star Fox 64 was not as good as the original.

MARIO 64 still doesn't feel like a MARIOgame.

MK 64 battle mode and Sin & Punishment are all time favorites tho.

I can agree with this. back in my college days I loved getting stoned and playing this. I guess it didn't appeal to some because it didn't have the traditional Mario things like power ups(starman, mushrooms, flowers) hundreds of koopa troopers in each level etc. but it was a fun platformer. looking back the game felt like an arcade version of super Mario bros that was made by another company the same way theres an arcade version of Mario kart made by Nintendo and Namco.

I went on to enjoy other Mario games like Mario sunshine and Mario galaxy which really surprised me how much I enjoyed that game.

For instance on Raw Is War, on the PlayStation, a video would pop up of a character talking shit if they wanted a rematch. On the 64 it was just the character animation saying a catch phrase and hitting a punching bag.

It took me about 8-9 years to beat Donkey Kong 64. Couldn't get that original donkey kong game requirement for shit.
