The Grammy's have shitted on rap for real... but they haven't on all the other greats (MJ, Stevie, Ray, Aretha, JB... in fact virtually all of the vintage Motown crew)

Say what you want about how "POP" "Gettin Jiggy Wit It" is, it's a Classic song and created a huge dance craze. Also this song proves that NaS can make commerically successful rhymes something some people use against him "NaS can't make a hot club track". Sure later in his career he had ghostwriters but Will is stil the man and came from the Golden Era of Hip Hop. "He's the DJ and I'm The Rapper" is one of the greatest rap albums of all time. But I think Will needs to work with NaS again. I love how NaS wrote "Just Cruisin" sick song by Will and Esco:

From the time I was growing up to now, I still listen to Will Smith. He's one of my favorite rappers. I still remember listening to "A Nightmare on My Street" on 98.7 Kiss FM (the days of DJ Red Alert) in the early afternoon in my parent's store and I would still get chills hearing that song, especially the ending. This is also one of my favorite songs Girls Ain't Nothing but Trouble - (DJ Jazzy Jeff - really worked that "I Dream of Jeannie" sample) [video=youtube;0FFrCZNNCeU]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FFrCZNNCeU[/video] A lot of rappers of today see Mr. Smith as being soft, even Bow Wow after few years ago, but are unable to do what he did (besides sell alot of albums). Will Smith was able to be & stay true to himself, not posing to be something that he wasn't. This is the area where a lot of rappers fail in today and cover up in order to eliminate rejection.

He even addresses that in "I wish I made that/Swagga" from his 2005 release Lost and Found:

It's not a matter of caring about grammies, it's a matter of Hip Hop getting it's respect as a musical artform and get reconized at the grammies is apart of that. Will stuck his neck out for the whole genre and even though he won the award, he boycotted it and didn't accept it. That sent a huge message and now again Rap catagory is televised. Sadly it's only 1 catagory but hey before Will did what he did, there was no catagory being shown. Grammies get it wrong more than right when it comes to Hip Hop but again what Will did should not be downplayed. He did some G shit to the grammies back in the 80's golden era when Hip Hop was still trying to get respect. Will is the Man.
