Nicki Minaj's Moment for Life>>>>>>>>>>>Lil Kim's career

I literally just asked my girl if she thinks moment for life is a classic song and her immediate response was "classic??" in her Jim Mora "playoffs?" voice hahaha.

Its a coo lil track but some are putting waaaay too much on it. Terms like classic are used way too loosely in this era.

They can't help themselves, Kim is already Legend in the game and in order to validate Nicki they feel the need to try to elevate her over Kim. The funny thing about it is Drake make's reference to "Junior Mafia", Lil Kim's group in the song, but he tries to shout out Cease over Kim, lol. It's a good song though, better than Kim's Career?, "Quiet Storm" and "Benji's" disagrees with that.

Kim being a legend doesn't sound right at all

This is a great song. Kim is a legend based on her persona and her impact in the game. You cannot deny that. Most of the females were on some B-Girl shit but Kim came with that super raunchy shit. Although Patra was doing it before her, Patra was a dancehall artist

nicki can sing..... at least sound like she can almost sing
kim can't do that
that's the main reason i said this song>>>>>>>>>>kim's career
it don't take no talent to recite someone else's lyrics

Really?

"But I didn't do it all alone... we"

That shit was fuckin terrible and Drake killed her on her own shit. Big Sean should sue.

it makes sense if you finish the line because it flows right into the other bars..."Clap for the heavyweight champ me/But I couldn't do it all alone we/Young Money raised me/Grew about in (whatever she says)"...it's not the same as the other times she fucked it up

who the fuck would deem a song classic when it just came out? ya'll always want an instant classic...be patient, not saying this song is anyway a classic but damn even shit that could be a classic takes more than a few months to reach that status

I fixed that for you, b....but everyone have their own personal opinion. But sometimes personal opinions are like assholes.

i know it takes years hence me saying it takes more than a few months...it's stupid to even ask a question about an album or song's classic status this soon after it's been released whether the rapper is Nicki Minaj or if 2Pac dropped a new album

i was thinking the same thing. once i heard that line i was through with the song.

this is my problem with nicki minaj fans. they can't just say that nicki is entertaining or that they like her image. they try and make her out to be this amazing rapper and she's not. she's a pop star who makes catchy hooks and sells an image.

in all honesty, musically, she should be getting compared to fergie, kesha, and gwen stefani, not lil kim.

but she can rap tho.... Not sayin she's the best to ever do it but she can actually rap... She watered herself down to get that Pop Money but i know for a fact she can rap.... Sucka Free Mixtape was proof of that.....

all i've ever heard from her are non-sensical punchline raps. she has a decent flow and her delivery is great, but she's usually not saying anything. in that sense she reminds me of missy elliot. and no one would say missy was a great "rapper".

can you post something that's she's done that is actually lyrical? extended metaphors, mutli's, creative wordplay, etc

She CAN Rap she just switched it up for the Money and i cant blame her.....

i'll give to you, she can (or could) rap. the autobiography song was good. they others were meh, imo. but to me this is just further proof that nicki's mainstream success is based off just image and not mc skills. because she didn't just water herself down. she changed her whole style and image into a gimmick, and completely left the mc skills behind.

i'm not knocking her for deciding to do that. she can make any whatever type of music she wants. but let's keep her music in perspective. lady gaga is a classical trained piano player, but her current music isn't classified as "classical". katy perry started as a gospel singer, but her current music isn't anywhere near gospel music.

they now make pop music. the same with nicki. so people need to stop calling her "the new queen of hip hop" or "hip hop royalty" or any other hip hop title, and start calling her what she is-a pop artist.

if she wants go for "the queen of pop" title fine, but leave the hip hop crown to those who actually choose to make hip hop music.

But "Hip Hop" or Rap music is Pop... Whats so hard about this? They call Jay-Z The King of Rap when in all honestly he's a Pop Star who happens to rap same with Wayne, Kanye, Em or anybody else who is Popular.... Pink Friday is only like 13 songs but mind u she had 3 MIXTAPES before that even dropped... So im speaking from an EARLY fan perceptive... I know she can rap and it's a different Feeling when u see a hood chick on THE COME UP DVD with long ass nails and a bum ass Baby phat bag rapping her ass off turn into this Icon she is today.... I cant knock the hustle because i know as a female rapper its hard as hell to get recognition....

Plus i KNOW she can rap.... So why would i be upset?

first, i never said you should be upset. i made it clear nicki can make whatever type of music she wants.

second, there's a difference between making "hip hop" music that crosses over and becomes popular(as in well known/liked), and an artist intentionly making a pop album(as in the genre of music known as pop). arcade fire makes "popular" rock music, but there music isn't "pop" as in the genre of music. "pop" music has distinct sound that usually involves very simple lyrics, a catchy hook, and thin production. nicki minaj's pink friday, not her mixtapes, is a pop album. that's how she choose to intoduce herself to the world as a mainstream artist, so imo she's a "pop" artist.

third, slow down with calling her an "icon". she's just one album deep. so please don't go throwing around the word icon on an artist thats barely been out 2 years. that's disrespectful to real icons like micheal jackson, madonna, stevie wonder, the beatles and others.
