vince staples is a cool cat. i really tried to listen to Summertime 06 but as the album progressed, I couldnt wait for the shit to end. There was so many songs and i really couldnt focus on what the dude was talking about for real.

imma re-listen to the album.

Please explain

Stylistically the way he raps and the things he incorporates is very different even his production. You can't compare his style to anyone else. Ex in Type of Time or By Any Means he incorporates snippets from 50 Cent and Malcolm X talking but relates it to the song like an outro (or intro) but it fits the song as if it's apart of it. In don't shoot he changes his tone of voice where at one point you thinking it's a little kid rapping as he changes it every verse to show he's growing up until the third verse where it's his own. There's a lot more but Dave East brings a different style and approach to his music and subject matter.

Other Honourable mentions are Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolBoy Q, Isaiah Rashad, J.Cole (high for hours) and more.

but everything you mentioned is all stylistic type shit. He's creative,and his approach is always fresh but his subject matter his still typical gangsta rap/block talk/raw storytelling type shit. 90 percent of 90s rappers talked about the same shit he did

you can say the same thing for schoolboy q.

First time hearing that Limos song. Played it 5 times straight....... WTF have I been when this shit came out.

Am I the only thinking hip hop needs more dope haunting songs like this? People playing around and trying to turn up and make lit songs and shit, yet this beat is flames and has a crazy message behind it. Love this song already man.
