New Pharrell album

Honestly, shit was trash. And that's coming from someone who used to enjoy the shit out of the work he did with Chad Hugo.

it drew inspiration from some of the worst elements of 80's synth pop and combined it with some off key and unimaginative singing. Just a cheesy and worthless pastiche all around. But I guess that's expected now that pharrell pretty much pop. When you gain as much attention and achieve as much commercial success as he has, your artistic integrity is often compromised along the way

.....what?

did you forget pharrell was producing for the likes of justin timberlake, usher, & Brittany Spears while at the same time producing for jay-z, jadakiss, and the clipse?

in the past year alone he's worked with jay, pusha, weekend, beyonce, daft punk,TDE etc. this is who he is. he never stayed in one lane. he makes hip hop, pop, r&b, rock, do some movie scores, then comes back to hip hop.

if you ain't feeling the album then cool. I admitted myself I only rock with half. but it's not because of his artistic integrity being compromised due to him achieving commercial success. if that were true it would've been compromised more than a decade ago

And Shadyteam is back. Wow good thing I only use the Reason now for the Create Your Own Label thread. Y'all ban this spamming bitch then bring back Gee

I get where your coming from bruh. i was talking more along the lines of his solo work. and stuff he did on n.e.r.d. he has produced countless pop songs no dispute there at all. but he himself as an individual hasnt garnished as much attention in the past as he is receiving now. which goes back to my point. this project is a far cry from in search of and fly or die. even in my mind. which was still rooted in r & b and hip hop. nothing like the forgettable cheesy dance pop on this album.

i remember pharrell saying he hates when people call happy a pop song. apparently it has a similar sound as southern baptist gospel music. he grew up in virginia so its possible. not saying you are but i think people are too quick to label anything thats not straight hip hop or R&B pop

this album is hit and miss tbh. it took be surprise on first listen, then i went back once i realized the direction he was taking the album. it has its own sound. its not in my mind. some records on there was hit and miss as well. pharrell is a great producer and song writer but he is iffy as a singer. his voice alone cant carry an album. but you know its him behind the boards even though his music doesnt necessarily sound the same. i'll enjoy it if its good enough

a nigga cant like both happy and grindin?

I'M SPOTIFY THIS SHIT & DROP MY THOUGHTS LATER...

I HAVE LOW EXPECTIONS BC THIS SHIT LOOKS MOIST

I DO LIKE HAPPY ON THE LOW THO

Man I thought this shit was weak. Some of the songs sounded like he was tryna do what Timbo did for JT.

Wasn't expectin' much, so I'm not really disappointed

I'm positive if he had Timbo do this album it would've came out much better.

'Hunter' is kinda rapey.

P been spending a bit too much time with Robin Thicke.

the fact that he can't sing for shit made this album somewhat entertaining to me....'freq' knocks.
