Jay has done it for most of his career and the irony is “Its like when a nigga make subliminal records/If it ain’t directed directly at me, I don’t respect it" and then he goes on to send sublimes the rest of his career.

thing is tho, with most of these "subliminal" records the rapper makes it obvious who he's talking about

"hides behind 8 mile and the chronic, gets rich but dies rhyming" - nas taking shots at 50

"with 12 monkeys on the stage it's hard to see who's the guerrilla

you was better as a drug dealer" - common talking about 50 most likely

we knew commons sweet was about drake

we knew drake's stay scheming verse was about common

wayne threatening to kidnap Beyoncé over jay's "baby money" line

I can go on and on

meanwhile we have rappers calling out how these other niggas rap, dress, act etc yet we see them doing songs with the same rappers their bars could've been directed at, leaving their bars up in the air

those are true subliminals imo

^^^This post needs to be stickied.

I'm tired of nggas hearin a verse, clearly aimed at a ngga, then lazily and snobbishly sayin 'He aint say his name tho'

Thats what rap is supposed to be. Its a reward for the intelligent fan- to know 100% who its aimed at, while the rest of the dumb nggas are waitin for a name to be dropped.

I.e. the brillianceand hilarity of 'Is that yo chick' bein completely directed at Nas...or kick in the door bein aimed at Nas and a lot of nggas not knowin for a decade...

Again, Drake is new school so he's tyring to do that, but completely missing the nouance of it. you cant always do sublimnials and this is 1 moment when you cant. . Also, in the social media age, you cant 'sublminal' a ngga when all of social media knows whats goin on. Back then people didnt know about Jay/Nas beef, or Big/Nas beef, etc

I take Jay's original stance on sublimes, if the shit aint directed directly at the nigga /name names , I dont respect that shit. All those Biggie tracks that were supposedly about Pac dont even count as diss records in my book. Nas had already made a full song about 50 at that point when he made that sublime. If you gonna diss the nigga then DISS the nigga.

"Thats why I fucked your bitch you fat motherfucka" , Ive grown to respect Pac's disses more as time passes.

death row threw out one of the most famous subliminals at the source awards when suge said if u dont want the exec. producer dancing all up in ur videos

NO^^^

That bullshit is the reason why niggas is reaching crazy for sublimes now. And the sad shit about it is, 9 times outta 10 if you ask the nigga if he sent the shot he's gonna say " well um, if the shoe fits then hey" , some pussy shit smh

i say that shit cause of what happened during his time as the decision maker over at def jam.

this is literally all his fucking fault.

if drake wins, that will be a direct result of the decisions he made as prez.

How so?

seriouslsdf.jpg

alllllllllll them niggas was making bad music and needed their shit pushed back, left unreleased or not promoted at all?

all of them?

word?

nigga changed the entire infrastructure of hip hop and you gon say how so?

WOOORRRD?!?!

No nigga...how does Jay pushing back a nigga's album years ago lead to Drake possibly "winning" today? Jay ain't change the infrastructure of hip-hop...It changed with the music industry and the internet becoming the go to place to get music.

stop reciting rhetoric.

you sound like Lars Ulric.

he made way for the untalented pop icons to be looked at as hip hop.

also... if you can't understand a ripple effect due to your brand loyalty then this conversation is pretty pointless dont you think?

1st it's not reciting rhetoric as if it's not actually true that the internet changed how we consume music, and also made it so anyone with a catchy hook and simple beat can be an instant one hit wonder. That was going to happen no matter who ran Def Jam or any other label period. Hip-Hop wasn't going to immune to that change no matter how badly people want to believe otherwise. 2nd the last thing is all you had to say. Jay's brand loyalty is where he went wrong during his Def Jam days. All the extra emotional reaction you gave wasn't needed.

no what? u want a nigga to say names but most people dont. its been that way for years. rakim never said kane name and kane never said rakim name technically (he said rap soloist u dont want none of this). suge didnt say puff name but we know who he was talking about.

At the end of the day its funny how The Reason posters are more into psuedo beefs than actual albums and mixtapes that are out. Yall hip hop fans need your hip hop priorities checked.

So yall really think Jay's verse was better? lol

Not saying its better but you said Jay Elect's verse was 10x better and it wasnt. They're about on the same playin field Jay-E's verse gets the edge but it doesnt shits all over Hov's verse/

so the disses were

"you married"

"im a egg u....u aint hard" (or whatever he said)

"you been hit or miss"

"I think I'm on my eighth flow..

Just watch me paint flow...

We all do it for the art...

So I could never hate though"

????

Drake a ok rapper but this shit grade A trash dissing.

lol@niggas trying to convince themselves "he can rap"...

all these compliments seem forced... "gotta admit, he got skills... but..."

its ok to not like the shit guys...

That could also be read as forced hatred to not just admit the nigga can rap you just personally don't like the music he makes. Same as some niggas say about other rappers.

"the nigga can rap"? what does that even mean?

i think he sucks. anyone can rhyme words, literally... I liked a couple of his songs... if she drop something I like, Ill admit it.

I get people not feeling this, nothing wrong with it, but this thread filled with niggas really upset cuz others like it, stop being hoes n get over it

You know what it means. Don't be purposely dense to try and prove a point. Is Drake a good rapper? Yes. Does he make the best music? Hell no. See how easy that is?

Smh

1. subliminal (of a stimulus or mental process) below the threshold of sensation or consciousness; perceived by or affecting someone's mind without their being aware of it.

If you don't have to ask 'who is he talking about' its not a subliminal!!!!

'If you dont want the producer dancin ALLLL in the video (He looks at the mfer!)- Not a subliminal.

"Bench warmers talkin like starters, i hate it": Hmm he could be talkin to me, he could be talkin bout xyz....SUBMLIMNAL

There's levels. There's direct shots. There's subliminals. Then there's just shyt that YOU didnt get.

Thats like me lookin you dead in the face w/ no one around and i'm talkin ot you, but you sayin 'well u aint say my name so u aint talkin to me'

Did I say you personally were doing that? No. I said some comments can perceived as forced hate too just like you said some come off as forcing themselves to try and like something. You took that shit way too personally
