Just finished watching. I liked it a lot but it left much to be desired.. namely, more bloodshed and graphic executions lol.. I felt they kind of glossed over the actual revolt.

Also I don't understand why Nat surrendered on his own when he could have offed a few more whites and actually died fighting

I love how they played up the mulatto house nigga as the likely snitch but it was a little boy who did instead. Had to be someone

I give the film 2 thimbs up :+1: :+1:

...HE SURRENDERED CAUSE INNOCENT BLACKS WERE BEING KILT BECAUSE OF HIM...

I got confused at times with the pacing of the timeline. Couldn't help noticing that they had no problem showing dead black women and children, but never did the same for whites. The rebellion felt short changed. They mention later how many people they killed, but they failed to deliver that message during the actual scenes. I'm nitpicking, though.

A good drama and appeared to do right by the true story. It's a slave movie I don't mind.

....SAME THANG I SAID TO MY WIFE... THEY ALLLLWAYS SHOW HOW BAD BLACKS GOT BEAT, BUT WANNA GO EASY ON THE WHITES

It showed how bad we were done to provide context when we finally stood up

Showing a bunch of whites get murdered when they didn't even show a lot of us killed would hurt the movie imo

This wasn't about an eye for an eye, it's about niggas having enough and sacrificing for what's right

Nobody went easy on Whites, we won no war on that day and they all died for standing up but they stood

Showing a bunch of whites get slaughtered would imply a win that simply didn't happen and garner sympathy for people who likely deserved none

...YET,THEY HAD NO PROVLEM SHOWING HIS WIFES FACE LOOKIN LIKE SHE GOT RAN OVER BY MAC TRUCK

She looked like a light version of Emmit Till

^^ guess it depends where u at. I saw it yesterday(a Tuesday) around this same time and it was about 30 or so people ..

to the movie, i liked it but cs what many have said. They really pulled the punches in a few scene which you can tell was used to appease whites.... some of the scenes should have been showed. still enjoyed it

Just got out the theater. Bout 7 people including myself. Shit was definitely powerful. Especially him seeing that slavery was more than just "the way things are" and using the Word to inspire instead of quell. White tears were flowing after the movie. Had this old white lady crying on the way out.

My post literally covers that exact point

I be forgetting y'all the niggas who skipped the political scenes on "The Wire"

Just finished. Good movie. The "strange fruit" part was powerful. The everyday hopelessness was pervasive throughout the film..amazing how we survived...

I was going to post my view of the movie, but I noticed a couple brothers were referring to Strange Fruit by Nina Simone as Kanye's Blood on The Leaves. I'm not going to lie, I was a little hurt by that. Shout to ye for the sample, but...

Movie pacing was slow at first, I understand it was lead-in to his transition and the events to come. I hate love stories in movies, UNLESS, the movie is a love story. That could've been reduced but still included her story line, because it was done with Gabrielle Union.

Now this is my personal opinion because of my issues with "IT" at the moment, which some of you call "GOD". I get that this is a period piece, so this part of the movie could absolutely not be omitted. Especially since we were stripped of our culture and forced to worship and follow a religion forced on us. I must admit I have not finished my research on religion as a whole, mainly Christianity, and whether or not it's our own culture appropriated by the white man and molded into his version then forced on us. Or it's just his version imposed on us. It made me sick to see that some of us still follow this religion today! Like I said I have to finish my research to stand fully on that point. But, it made me happy, angry, and even drop one to see the words lift of the page and give new meaning and purpose to Nat Turner.

Overall, I thought it was good, and is a must see for all races. Especially our own. I like the message it sends of empowerment, and the need/must/will to sacrifice for the bigger picture. If you haven't watch the Breakfast Club interview, I suggest you do.

Be cool with, be civilized, be cordial, make friends of other races. But, always keep in the back of your mind the atrocities done to our people in the back of your mind to keep you balanced. The words at the end of the movie should be enough to keep the scale centered.

I'm mad at myself for not going to see it opening weekend, but slow and steady wins the race. I'm going to see it again, and will buy extra tickets in support.

P.S. A part of me wanted and needed more bloodshed lol

I think strange fruit was created by Billie Holliday not Nina simmone

My bad, yes you're right. I stand corrected!. That was Nina's covering of the song in BON.

Gabrielle's romance was only a very small part of the picture and an actual way of life for the slaves back then when your wife could just be taken and used to be a bed wench. As far as Nat Turner's romantic interest I think it provided a piece of the build-up

if yall ever saw top 5, chris rock's character directed and starred in a movie about the haitian revolution. nobody saw it, but people flocked to the madea movie which came out the same day

birth of a nation was no blockbuster (not that it matters), but that madea movie is around the corner and will gross more money than this flick. life imitating art

although a lot of the scenes were graphic, the one that hit me the hardest was the slave removing the little black girl from the white dudes bed after he killed him. shit was so simple yet effective

i went to see it saturday night. ive read the book and love nat to the fullest but to be truthful this movie was doo doo grits. i was mad when i left. i just spent nine bucks for some shit i should of seen on b.e.t. man now i aint gone lie i got kinda loud when niggaZ was killin crackas. specially when ole boy hit the cracka with the hatchet...but over all i wanted more gore. lil bro told me it didnt have the part with his nigga will killing the white babies but fuck that. they needed that scene for me to even believe this was about my nigga nat. smmfh. i hated this shit. no lie. i cant dig this shit. i still supported the brother but i feel like this was a "run tell that" type of deal. last time i go to the movies in a while.
