After eight years and five solo releases

(including the highly anticipated solo album scheduled for release later this year),

it was announced today, that Nas is parting ways with his long time label, Universal/ Def Jam,

and going independent with the newly established Mass Appeal Records.

Mass Appeal records, founded by NAS and Peter Bittenbender..

I called it last year. It was the only way forward for him musically.

this is gonna get ugly...im pretty sure nas will be in court if mass appeal blows up because there is already a mass appeal music

Its actually a play off Nas' Magazine also named Mass Appeal..

yeah i know the story of him investing in mass appeal magazine but now he is taking that name and going into music when there is a mass appeal music or entertainment (whatever it is). i know its independent with old school acts signed to it. i dont know how it works legally but im sure they gonna beef about the name

featuring friends of the brand like Future, Pusha T, Mac Miller, A$AP Mob and Nas himself performing a cover of the 1994 Gang Starr single that gave the company its name.

not sure i wanna hear those 2 guys on da Mass Appeal beat

They aren't on that beat, just songs on the compilation

The first release from the new label is expected this summer,

as an annual compilation album featuring Future, Pusha T, Mac Miller, A$AP Mob, and Nas himself,

performing a cover of the 1994 Gang Starr single in which the company was named after.

Following that release, fans can expect the highly anticipated follow up to 2002's Lost Tapes, Lost Tapes 2,

a collection of unheard and unreleased material from one of hip hop's most influential lyricist.

After that, Mass Appeal Records shows no signs of slowing down,

with a planned release of a posthumous album from Pimp C,

that features modern production from some of the industry biggest producers including Juicy J,

Mike Will Made It, and DJ Mustard

Wonder why Nas doing all this business stuff now but this is a good look.

Nas got an email? I'm trying to get signed

ya something lit a fire under dude.

Hes opened a sneaker store and started a label in the past month, and I think is invested in rapgenius, rock the bells and a bunch of other companies

I don't care about Dre billion dollar deal. That's great and all but my Hip Hop mogul of the year goes to Nas. Nas is diversifying his assets heavy across the board. He been making power moves all year. The Google deal, the sneaker store, bitcoin, and now this. I almost fell out my chair when I read about pimp c news. Screw smiling down from heaven read any Screw interview he was a big Nas fan. Nas been on Screw tapes since 95. Nas is Screwed Up Click bitch!!! TRILLA!!!! Nas gonna have a REAL NIGGA album on his label. That country rap No wonder this nigga don't blink an eye when it comes to the IRS. Nas paper looking long right now. I'm really glad for Nas cause he has the mind for pushing hip hop globally on an intellectual and artistic level. Did yall hear his Google speeches. Nas in the room with silicon valley geniuses sounding articulate and composed. People of all races love to pick Nas mind. They not investing in Nas the rapper. The investing in Nas the prophet. Nas out here running with the most powerful men in science and technology while Jay Z getting his ass beat by a girl in a elevator. What did Nas tell Jay Z on poison. What goes around comes around. You Jigga warriors even gotta admit we are long way from 2001 and Takeover. Real shit Jay Z played himself out this week. The youth makes fun of him for being ugly and getting that chun Li treatment. Women my age and older are smart enough to know he mistreating a woman many men would kill for and they not really feeling him right now. All the rap niggas see how corny Shawn is when he don't have a white man telling him how to act around him.

Great news but like everything involving Nas, I'll believe it when I see it

Agreed. This is more of him rightfully trying to get some Indy money with Lost Tape 2 etc. His next new album will be on a major more then likely!
