i'd rather have nas career..respected by old school, new school, better catalog, and still selling records..nelly last album didn't sell..nas last album was #1 and nas probably get more per show and can get that overseas money

This pretty much boils down to, whether you'd like the career with a short high ramped up to 10, or would you have the longer career operating at a 3 or 4.

If you can handle the downside of a career like Nelly's, then that's the obvious choice. But a lot of people probably couldn't handle being at level 10 and then having it taken away. In which case, wanting a career like Nas makes sense, where the highs will never be as high as Nelly, but you wouldn't experience that slide down and inability to get back to an unobtainable peak.

I don't see nelly as having more reputation or money, I just would rather make a quick stint and move on than a long one.

Nas is still in the game because he is rapping for the IRS

in nas position he have to continue to compete like rookie of the year every year he drop. Thats the problem I have with it. Even cormega position isnt like that..... He seem to never really feel like a legend, he constantly fear the beginners. He's always talking about the state of hiphop as if he just started rappin. At this point he should be behind the scenes approving the state of hiphop and not giving interviews about the state of hiphop...

Even mega comes off like he feels like a mentor by now. nas still feels like his competion is the new comers, who is it now, Kendrick lamar?

So Nas being passionate about what he's doing more than 20 years after he started... is a bad thing?

Don't confuse having a passion, with being stunted with hatred. Over 40 and telling lies. Complaining that hip hop has lost it's realness, but actually did nothing to actually change it.

Its not that hard to change, it's that some artist such as nas, prefer for it not to change so they can look like the realest who ever done it. Even newer artist other than nas have attempted to give back to their communities and at least attempt to put other artist on even if it's a fail, the point is they tried. Even lil wayne have made boss moves in the inside of the game. After a certain amount of years crying and complaining when you have power to change the game just looks stunted.. Qtip at least is producing. Any artist that stay in the same position year after year and blame others should blame themselves. The rap game is not a game anyone should stay in the same position year after year.

& no this isn't a cry for me to get signed, because personally I sat myself back, and one of the reason being is because I was not taken serious because of LIES that I was a groupie, with particular rappers I never even met... I rather be sat back and taken serious than waste one opportunity with a ruined reputation.

Even tho I don't have a substantial rap career, I still politic in the underground to change the face of it,so other female artist in my category will be taken seriously. I may not have had the reputation I deserve, but I can pave the way for future females to come so they wont have that same experience.

Fuck yeah. I'd rather be a nerd than a dumbass. Nerds know what the fuck they're talking about.

And not sure what money you're talking about.

Nelly

who the fuck in there right mind picks a guy who gets chased by the irs and catchs consistant L's?

If I'm not mistaken, it says career and not life. Getting chased by the IRS and any personal L's Nas has taken doesn't have anything to do with his career, but more so his personal life.

It's easy to pick Nelly just based off record sales of his early albums, but when you take into account longevity, how can anyone pick Nelly? Nas has appeared on some of the biggest albums in recent memory and is outselling Nelly. A Nelly that started his career going diamond and competing with his own albums for the #1 spot on Billboard. Fast forward present day and you're looking at an artist having trouble selling in total what Nas did in one week with his last album. Sure Nelly can still get money from collaborating with Country artists like Florida-Georgia Line, but it's not the same Nelly that had his own hits with Tim McGraw.

Even outside of just albums, Nas has written for Will Smith and that was Will's biggest album and some of Will's biggest hits.

Last, but not least, Nas is considered an icon in Hip Hop. The same can't be said about Nelly. To say that Nelly's career>>>>>> Nas is to say that 50 Cent and DMX's careers are >>>>> Jay's.

Nas has success AND longevity. Nelly just has success.

WOw niggas comparing finances, that's what's wrong with the rap game now. And niggas act like the average citizen never owed the IRS. FOH And 20 plus years in the game I doubt that Nas is broke, he still working and touring, and I don't know what else he does on the side, I could give a fuck less. And talking about Kelis, all these fat bitches niggas out here don fucked, and spent money on. Shit it happens to the best of us, but career wise, Nas wins this hands down, and I respect Nelly for doing his thing as well

So basically the question is would you rather have sustained critical acclaim with a decent amount of money to show for it and respect or be white hot for a short amount of time and caked up. Got it.

I'll take Nas.

I would rather be a artist on the hold for 20 years and drop 1 classic album then a artist who is in rookie mode in the limelight for 20 years, who constantly complain about the state of hip hop, and do completely nothing to fix, fixable problems...

we are talking about careers and not music, nelly have other avenue and options he can choose from, he has a more flexible career, eventho he do not make the same type of music nas makes, career wise, he can branch into other faucetts. Nas seem to be stuck in 1 position, and it's because he wants to be stuck.
