NAS - N*gger album: CLASSIC or no?

I wasn't really feeling the post God's Son albums until Distant Relatives. They all had great tracks here and there but as a cohesive body of work DR and LIG are far superior to SD, HHID and Untitled

Nas my favorite rapper ever, to me it is a classic but I look at how another person views the content as well. The production (in most cases with Nas) made this album fall short. Plus some songs went way over folks head, like Fried Chicken.

No revolutionaries get old although I'm told

You'll get a left full of bullet holes when you tell the people go free

Oh, it's a matter of days before they try to take me

Louis Farrakhan was the best song on that album in my opinion.

You know what this album is crack. So well put together other then that hero and Chris brown joint money make the world go

The Nigger/Untitled album I feel was my favorite from NAS. 2nd the collab album with Damian Marley. 3rd Life Is Good. I know you didn't ask about 3 albums, but they always come to mind as my preferred albums from him.

The Nigger Tape was FAR better and Album of the Year to me.

smh @ Pitchfork being the only ones to agree w/ me that the mixtape was better

The last verse on Hero was fire. One of his best verses. Touched on the topic of the troubles of dropping the album.

I don't think it's a classic but it's a good ass album.

Most major artists aren't gonna go against the grain and drop an album like this. I kinda feel like this album lost him his mainstream appeal. Because nobody wants to talk race or talk social issues.

Fried chicken probably my favorite song on the album.

I'm a huge Nas fan. I remember Live @ the Barbaque and bought Illmatic when it was out. But I've never heard the Nigger album. I remember when it dropped but I didn't cop it. I didn't even d/l it. I think its because I bought Hip Hop Is Dead before that and thought it was boring. But I liked all of his other albums.

Judging from the reviews in this thread, I'll cop the Nigger album and give it a listen
