With Nas’ upcoming album, Life Is Good, inching closer to its July 17 release date, “The Don” from Queensbridge says he is totally focused on himself and not joint LPs spoken on in the past.
That said, fans of The Firm, wondering when the forever-rumored duet album with Esco and AZ will drop, will have to wait.
“You know, we were doing an Illmatic show with Rock the Bells [last year],” Nas recently told XXL about longtime partner in rhyme, AZ. “He came through and held a nigga down. It’s always good getting up with my nigga. That album [Illmatic], we just had the 18th anniversary [in April]. We were just young bucks in the game, trying to get in.
“We’ll always have that moment,” God’s Son added. “It takes me back to the time when we were doing a lot of records together. But yeah, I’ve been four years away from a solo album. I’m just getting back into the game. Once I get back into the game, you never know what could happen.”
Nas and Common also discussed a joint effort at one point as well; as of press time, there’s no word on the status of that project. God’s Son added that there are no current plans to record a follow-up to 2009’s Distant Relatives LP with Damien Marley. The duo has toured the world together for the past three years. Nas however, said he definitely would love to record with the son of the legendary Bob Marley again, sometime down the road.
Two weeks back, Nas dropped “Daughters,” yet another single off Life Is Good. On the song, Nas rhymes about his 17-year-old daughter, Destiny, enduring growing pains, including writing a letter to a man in jail and a photo of a box of condoms she posted on Instagram.—Shaheem Reid
