You will never find your 'roots', I'm saying this, because I've known to many mothafuckaz that have been chasing an illusion(many Surinamers where I'm at). your home is where you're at. If the last thing you know is that your ancestors were sold by Ghanese merchants, or you know even less, then please don't expect anything when you fly to a random african nation......just feel at home everywhere and then you will love living in reality, instead of dreaming of your father your azz never knew.(which is tempting off course, but you know what I mean).

while slave-descendant black people may not be able to trace our roots as well as others, i do plan to visit africa and not just west africa, but also egypt, possibly south africa and a few other countries. when i was younger i saw no appeal in visiting africa. but as i became more educated about african world history, i began to feel a spiritual connection. regardless of what your family name was before it was taken, we, the african diaspora are a part of a marvelous history and what i hope will grow into a beautiful future...i hope.

I would definetly go to Ghana (thats where my roots are traced) but just to check out the culture first hand. I'm not looking for relatives or anything like that.

Fuck that. I don't think old dude even knows what the fuck he's talking about. Unless you been over there recently, their opinion isn't going to mean shit. Yeah, that sounds harsh, but I don't give a fuck. I'm tired of niggas with defeatist attitudes about Africa.

been over where? the continent is huge.... . I'm a 'native' btw, rocking double nationalities(a afrikan and european one)...travelled all over the place but I haven't seen shit if you know what I mean...and I'm young as fuck......

just warning identity crisis/insecure bro's who might have made their mind up/depending on finding home/their roots to be able to be happy....I know bros who are from suriname which came from ghana a lot of generations back, travelled to ghana only to experience a culture shock etc. A lot of pain/emotions are involved when people think about their roots.

You are a Berber from the Maghreb living in Europe (correct me if I'm wrong). You know your roots, stop trying to discourage people from finding theirs. Arabs, Europeans, East Indians & Chinese stay in Africa and they are not even native to the land. Fall back.

That Black Americans and Africans are becoming too different.

Culturally... maybe

If you were to travel to Africa today... no one would tell if you was 'American' except you open your mouth to speak

Been there frequently, for extended periods of time, have friends all over the continent.

I plan on securing some land and a home there in Western Africa, probably Ghana. Every time I go back it seems like I see somebody I know. They say every Black man has a twin in Africa.
