Motivational speaking....lets talk about it

A motivational speaker doesn't "need" a history to attempt to motivate people, but will benefit tremendously in effectiveness if they have one.

Not claiming to be a motivational speaker, up on stage, spitting game like Robbins by any means, but I am the friend that many come to when they have a problem, as well as have years experience in the Army as a Mental Health Specialist.

That being said, my findings are though you can speak towards motivating people, if you don't actually have experience in that which you advise, people, even if subconsciously, register it as theoretical.

On the other hand, when presenting something that we actually have experience in, folks tend to try to analyze the probability of success in adapting what you actually did, they look at your strategy and how that could be applied to themselves and other permutations with the thought in the back of their mind that you actually completed the task, so there's a genuine sense that they can.

"Then the next questions were about where has she been, what has she done, and thats where things got nasty...."

That audience was trying to verify why they should be listening to your friend. Why is what she's talking about more "valid" or worth more than anyone else in that room? From their perspective, maybe she got up one day, had a red bull, got super amped and decided to be a motivational speaker. To me, that was the fork in the road where she either cemented her credentials as to why she was qualified to "lead" folks to a better thought process or dismissed for speaking in theory.

I could be wrong, this is just based on my experiences.
