I don't see how Seinfeld is overrated, it's probably one of the best comedic shows to grace television. I mean I'm a young black male that could probably tell you every line from Martin or Chappelle's show and I still recognize the genius in Seinfeld... give niggas their props B

Me liking or disliking Seinfeld has nothing to do with race. I think that "Parks and Recreations" is the funniest show on TV and there's ONE black character (who isn't even funny)

I'll download a season of Seinfield and watch it, but that shit just doesn't seem funny to me.

Curb Your Enthusiasm is fucking hilarious.

c/s seinfeld

[NYPD Blue - Got all this praise and ratings for "pushing the envelope" because the actors would say "bitch" and flash they ass on camera for 2 seconds. Meanwhile, Homicide was languishing in a Friday Night Death Slot while it was *actually* pushing the envelope and laying the groundwork down for The Wire. Everything that Dennis Franz did over 12 seasons, Dominic West did better in those first 12 eps of Wire. They gave dude 4 lead actor Emmys FOH.

I'm sorry, I don't understand the point you're trying to make. You're saying NYPD Blue is overrated because a better show came out a decade later? That doesn't really make much sense. The Wire does shit all over NYPD Blue, but that doesn't mean that NYPD BLue wasn't a very good show. Not only that but the Wire also benefits from a) being able to build off of foundations set by shows like NYPD Blue and Homicide and b) being broadcast on HBO instead of network television.

Also, this thread is a little stupid. I mean there are overrated shows no doubt, but how many people in this thread claiming Friends is overrated are actually in the target demographic for the show? Of course you're not going to think the show was good, you're pretty much the opposite person for whom they intended the show. It would be like me calling a Taylor Swift cd overrated. I don't listen to that genre of music, so I have no clue whether her cd is good or bad by that standard. It may suck to me but that's largely because country music sucks to me. To actual country music fans, her cd could indeed be the greatest thing ever made.

Some of the earlier seasons aren't as funny as the later ones, so just keep that in mind.

I understand the point about target demographic, but things like comedy can be just objectively funny no matter what your background or demographic. King of Queens = objectively hilarious, no matter where you grow up. Friends = not so much. Matter of fact, all art forms that endure have objectively attractive qualities, whether you talking music, movies, etc. Maybe you can't appreciate Taylor Swift, but you can appreciate Johnny Cash.

Exactly, I'm sure I'm not the target demographic for shows like "The Office", "Curb Your Enthusiasm", or "Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia" but I cannot deny their hilarity.

Yeah, but the difference is King of Queens uses a style of comedy that is relateable to anyone. Not only that, but the show actually attempts to reach out to other groups. Friends is a show about a bunch of white people doing white people shit. To white people, it might be funny because they can relate to it some degree. To blacks, 90% of the humor of that show is probably foreign.

I'm just saying that there are some shows that are really only meant to appeal to certain groups. Therefore it doesn't make sense for someone that's not in that group to call it overrated.
