It's not. Classic songs come about everyday. Time doesn't stop just because you're a miserable fan of Hip Hop who can't keep up.

The most abused word in hip hop... swag, swag, swag, swag. LOL, jk.

Niggas use classic as a term to boost their promotion. You'd be surprised at how many people get gassed by that word. But in the grand scheme of things, there were many hip hop standard albums, but no real classic as far as music. There is NO hip hop album that stood the test of time like Thriller, Dark Side of the Moon, Songs in the Key of Life, etc. Not because they weren't that good, but they don't have the same impact as a classic should. The closest thing to that is Illmatic and AEOM... maybe.

Dope read. Yeah that word is getting tossed around a lot SMH. Im all for a nigga using it as a way to set a standard for themselves to meet musically but got dayum niggas need to cut that shit out. I think in 10 years tho TML is gonna be seen as a classic tho. Im starting to see a lot of niggas copying that synth, new wave shit and blending it into RnB same as how Drake did. Kendrick Lamar, J.Cole, even Kanye, I see them niggas copying....

In this day and age tho I wonder who will drop a true classic ? I await the day to see hiphop go thru another change, I just hope its a good change.

TML? As in Thank Me Later? Naaaaah. Niggas don't even play that shit now. And the new wave synth thing has already been done. It has its own damn genre.

Yeah but not in Hiphop and not like how Drake uses it. It sounds crazy now but look where music is going - niggas utilizing the 80s types of sounds on the synthesizers and blendin it with RnB, Hiphop is starting to blend with Alternative music n shit now (peep that new Tpain joint). This whole generation of "You can do anything you put your mind to" or as I call them the "Get Money/Success is everything or all for one" generation and that album catered to that demographic. Songs like "The Resistance" , "Fireworks" , "Over" etc. all dope tracks. It sounds crazy now but give it some 10-15 years. Niggas aint gonna say Drake (the nigga under lil wayne as in Wayne's second in command) NOW has a classic album under his belt. When RD came out noooo nigga was talkin about it being a classic, I remember wen one kid brought that shit to school n we clowned him - the fuck is Reasonable Doubt wen we all had Still I Rie, AEOM & Life After Death ? Life was great lolol.

Now back to what homey is saying , yeah the term "Classic" is over-used and I guess my argument above is a clear sign of that. But really and truthfully sometimes we can't see things for what they are until they or we "mature" and can talk about the times and how wat we were doin then.

TML owes its sounds to Graduation and 808s. Those were the first albums of that time to step over the boundaries and utilize synths in that fashion. Yeah, synths were used before, but those two albums were the first of its kind. And even looking 20 years from now, I'd give Graduation and 808s more credit than TML. And plus TML ain't that memorable of an album. It got anticipated, came out, went away before the year was over, and that was that. At least RD and Illmatic were slept on till them cats blew up. Drake already had his moment to make that album big, and it just came and went. Dope album and slept on cuz of the leftover Wayne hate in hindsight... but classic, especially going by the standards of this thread... nah. Cats may be jacking the 40 filtered synth style now (a technique he got from Pete Rock and Large Pro), but respect will always be due to Kanye for breaking down that wall.

I can keep up. I just look at it in the sense of people using the word way too much to over hype their next project.

Thanks for the feedback and the thoughts everybody. I appreciate it.
