Mobb Deep - Drop A Gem On 'Em

I miss the 90s... PAC clearly was outright calling names but niccas was sneak dissin. And even though I'm from LA my fav group is MOBB deep. And matter of fact we was listening to just as much MOBB as we did pac on the set

The general consensus seems to be that a blunt, straightforward diss that names names is better than a subliminal, over the head, lyrical diss.

But the more I think about it, I'm starting to change my mind. I like the idea of a subliminal diss where everybody knows who you're talking about. Its more clever than saying "Fuck Jay Z" or "Chino XL Fuck You Too". Some of 2Pac's disses were so simple that he should get an F for creativity.

That's not the general consensus. But when you have someone calling you out about your sickle cell disease, don't tip toe (ballerina reference, yes) around that shit. Be a man and buck back.

South Bronx was a dope diss and he didn't name names

Jack the Ripper was a dope diss and he didn't name names

To Da Break Of Dawn was dope diss and he didn't name names

Stillmatic Freestyle was a dope diss and he didn't name names

100 Miles and Runnin was a dope diss and they didn't name names

Sorry but I have to reject the premise that you have to name names to make a dope diss.

My GOAT said Pac was screaming louder than her when he got shot lol. that 96 ether.

I think there are things that limited this song's impact. The timing was a big part. I never really heard this song and have no real interest in hearing it. Its like the timing again dude's gone at that point. Plus Pac didnt beat around the bush he gave people no choice but to hear him. Before it was all about Pac And after that point when he died especially nobody was studyn somebody dissing him when he's gone. I couldnt never get into those type "disses" off gp.

No it ain't. Waiting til your enemy dies to take shots is a coward move...he looked like a sucker making that shit.

For the 10 millionth time: Pac died 83 days after Hit Em Up was released.

Last week, hip hop elites shared the discussion table with me & we all agree from different regions that Long Kiss Goodnight is not a top diss

You must be talking about that joint on the clue tape, cause the the Stillmatic joint had the whole roc in it

Pac stayed going at Mobb deep and a week before he dies they wanna drop a "diss"

A subliminal diss at that

Pac never took them seriously. All he did was give them 2 bars and went on with the song

Mobb Deep wonder why a nigga blowed them out

Next time grown folks talk, nigga close your mouth

Thats what I've been screaming for years. All Pac did was pop shit. He didn't actually do anything as far as opening an after school program, give scholarships to kids in the hood or work in conjunction with any politicians.

Now you've got people saying that Big and Mobb Deep were scared because they didn't pop shit like 2Pac.

Why would you want to pop shit like 2Pac?

Why would you want to be known as a person that blatantly disses people on records? Its corny if you think about it.

Also, if he really thought Biggie and Puffy set him up, he's softer than a pillow for making a record dissing them. I mean seriously, you get shot 5 times and you go directly to the recording studio and make a record dissing the person that you think did it???

Don't know why y'all nosigning Goldie.

He is right. Drop a gem on Em was weak. Pac murdered them on arguably the famous Diss song of all time.

And the only way Mobb Deep and Biggie could respond was with subliminals. When I heard drop a gem on Em the first time I didn't know it was a Diss. It was listed as (Pac Diss) I was like wtf where!??
