Well you may be right. The guy just has a likable personality and makes friends quickly. I don't think a lame could just skip the cell phone and suddenly be Mr. Popularity. I'll give you that. But I think the lack of phone has definitely elevated how happy people get when they see him, cause it's always a surprise, and if you don't see him in person you can't communicate with him.

As far as I can tell, he does pretty well with the women, without the late night text. I think his reason for not wanting a phone is the freedom that comes with it. Once you get a phone, people start expecting you to answer that shit whenever they call. In fact, it seems to me like more and more and more, men and women get into fights because "Why didn't you answer when I called?!" and then it can either go into "What are you hiding?" or "I'm not important enough for you to interrupt that to talk to me?". While I feel that mature and well-adjusted women ideally shouldn't get so worked up about this stuff, it seems to be very common. Then on top of that, I don't know the guys mom, but you got a lot of nervous wreck mothers out there who get no answer on the cell and start panicking that her son is dead or under arrest or kidnapped by terrorists. Add that to people always calling you over and over asking for some favor and people who can't take the hint that you don't wanna grab a beer and watch the game, you got a lot of headache coming from that phone.

Now, like I said about the "power move" article, I still think a phone is necessary for a young guy like me starting out in life. Once you've made a name for yourself and have some status, losing the phone may indeed be a power move, but I feel like right now, especially professionally speaking, if you can't be reached conveniently, you'll get looked over in favor of someone more readily available.

Texting in moderation isn't the matter at hand, I think, but I think the point is that if you spend all day texting, then you don't have real-life interaction, even with your real life relations. I maintain that texting OR phonecalls should, whenever possible, take a backseat and face-to-face interaction should be your main event. That if you're with someone, be it your girl, your friends, your family, etc, text as little as possible, don't answer phone calls that can wait, and if you have to answer, keep it short.
