Women can't teach a man to be a man. They can teach them to be a momma's boys tho.

Men learn their manhood thru relationships with women

I disagree. While the relationship with women plays a role to a man's overall being, it does not define him as a man or manhood.

My son is 12 yrs old and when he acts up, his momma calls me. You gotta understand there is nothing a woman can tell a man about being a man cuz she's never nor ever will be one.

The adversity he'll face, the responsibilities he needs to own up to, being stand up, how to deal with his emotions of anger hurt betrayal trust etc needs to come from someone he can relate to on his level.

men are losing our gender identity. I mean what does it mean to be a man? too many men don't know.

I forget what tribe it is, but its one in Africa where the teen boys put white paint all over their body and are separated from everyone for like a week and then finally wash it off after the week goes by. They return as 'a man' after they do that ritual. Maybe we should do something similar so there's no more confusion about this

there are many tribes in Africa that do something like that. we should do something similar.

a manhood ceremony ,a rites of passage were the men teach the boys what they need to know and how to act as men

I do have a problem with this though.

why

Or maybe it's the way you worded it, but is there only way path to being a man?

no there no checklist that you have to complete, i was just saying that the older men need to snatch some of these young guys up and teach them certain things. black males learn shit to late that we should have known at a younger age. it just a way to help boys throw childhood off and start thinking and acting mature with all their actions.

Allowing other people, especially women, to define manhood for you sounds like a terrible idea.

Exactly. But you know how it happens? Take a look at this site as an example. Dudes get into that 'i need to impress' phase. And they act differently to appease women.

You got 4-5 women who influence how a great percentage of dudes (on a predominantly male msg board) act.

I think the point is missing. It's not because a woman teaches a man masculinity but thats where men learn their position and same for women. Male and Females learn themselves thru each other.

Oh okay @zombie, yeah we need to guide young males to the right path while their very young. My father came too late, but his father helped out and I use to visit him often. He would show me how to be a man and taught me a lot of valuable things. He was a hard man and didn't play for shit. Things he taught me at a young age I now understand how important they are.

"Manhood" is a cultural and societal construction. In America the concept of manhood is open-ended, meaning there's no right or wrong way. It's almost purely to each his own.

Interesting thread.Let´s keep it real there is a strong movement against males. Now the problem is that it´s trickling down on to us black people.

Nah men are created by successfully navigating personal crucibles. Which is why back in the day boys were sent of to kill wild animals and weren't considered men until they successfully did so

Well we do have limited freedoms. But we all get to define manhood our own way. Taking that one away seems like a big step backward
