I hear this all the time but I have never come across it. Most of the attractive girls that I met or know (who have been labelled vapid), after getting to know them I actually found they were smart , talented and good natured girls that either lacked self confidence or were insecure and that propped up this "vapid" cloak. It also could be a lot of people don't bother to look beyond looks or maybe people open up around me..either way I disagree with that misconception.

But in a lot of industries it does exist. @Kai has alluded to a hierarchy in her studies as a postgraduate, and while I do not know whether or not it is gendered I did assume it is. If she has the time I would actually love to see her input on it given her experience as a scientist

From my experiences the more attractive the female the less engaging, friendly, and knowledgeable they feel they need to be.
A female that isn't quite as attractive and isn't getting sweated as hard by guys might tend to play to other strengths like their wittiness, dialogue, and other factors.
Regardless of looks though you can look at a female's mother and environment she comes from and it will speak volumes about how she will probably be.
