Tribe Called Quest. First album was classic, The Low End Theory stepped it up crazy.

Solo MC, Scarface.

I definitely co-sign the opening post. Death Certificate is the greatest hip-hop album I've ever heard and the biggest surprise is it followed up another classic. And Common's diss ain't shit just for the fact he said Cube hasn't made anything dope after A.M.W.

And speaking of Scarface, I wouldn't say The World Is Yours (great) is better than Mr. Scarface Is Back (classic) but The Diary surpassed both.

Spice 1 definitely needs a mention, Spice 1 was a great album but 187 He Wrote is as close to a classic he's gotten. The one who mentioned A Tribe Called Quest is pretty on-point. De La Soul also deserve a mention with a great debut (3 Feet High) but surpassed by a superior sophomore (De La Soul is Dead). And they even topped the three first efforts with Stakes is High.

Agree with the Bold. I was like Common shut the fuck up. Your not a diss rapper. That line made no sense at all. Death Certificate is better than any album he's dropped.

Common's best album can't even match AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted, let alone Death Certificate. Glad I have a valid excuse to disregard that overrated diss song. Shiit, Ice Cube saying hip-hop started in west ("Westside Slaughterhouse") makes more sense than Common saying that Cube has not made anything great after his debut. (Oh and "It Was a Good Day" is better than any Common song ever)

And I'm not denying that Common doesn't have his classic album(s), but none of them can match Cube's first two. So don't come at me with "Have you heard resurrection and BE? that shits better than any cube album" because neither of them are even the best Common album I've heard - Like Water for Chocolate is his best.

I agree. I can't understand why people think that diss song is good.

OutKast's ATLiens surpassed Southernplayalisticcadillacmuzik. I think that It Was Written in some ways surpassed Illmatic. I felt Nas was a more focused and better songwriter on IWW and he had more creativity.

Obvious answer would be the GOAT BIG. R2D is a classic but LAD is the best double cd ever made. Also, Common did rip them niggas to shreds. Stop the bullshit.........

I'm throwing Bone Thugs N Harmony into the mix.

Faces Of Death was followed by Creepin On Ah Come Up. If you don't accept FOD as their first official album then we can still say COACU was followed by E. 1999, which was classic.

I want to say Mobb Deep but Juvenile Hell wasn't all that hot to me.

We can argue Redman also. Whut Thee Album was dope and then he made Dare Iz A Darkside.

Good one, some might disagree but the second album showed his skill even more to me.
