Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Premieres to Super Ratings

Marvel's new show Hulk-smashes The Voice and NCIS.

by Max Nicholson SEPTEMBER 25, 2013

ABC and Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was kicking ass and taking names in the ratings last night, delivering 11.9 million viewers and a 4.6 adults 18-49 rating. That makes it TV's highest-rated drama debut in nearly four years.

11.9 million viewers is certainly nothing to scoff at, but what's especially notable here is that S.H.I.E.L.D. went up against The Voice and NCIS -- two of the most popular shows on TV -- and beat the blockbuster NCIS (3.4) in the 18-49 demo. The show also tied with the two-hour Voice episode (4.6), and even beat it during the 8pm hour. To be fair, both The Voice (with 14.14 million viewers) and NCIS (with a still amazing 19.47 million viewers) had more people actually watching them, but in TV, success is all about that coveted 18-49 demo, and for S.H.I.E.L.D. to be able to get such a good number, given the competition, is a very positive sign.

Hopefully S.H.I.E.L.D.'s ratings will hold steady in the coming weeks.

Luckily, comic book and fantasy fare has proven quite lucrative on TV in recent years with shows like ABC's own Once Upon a Time and The CW's Arrow. It was also announced yesterday that FOX will be getting in on that action with a new Commissioner Gordon origin TV series.

really?

They said from the jump they not gonna have big named characters in the tv show.

And I think something major happened to Coulsen.. He got blasted in the Avengers, he was probably resurrected with some kind of magic or alien tech

I hate announcements like this. Of course it got high ratings. A marvel show that has been advertised since one of the biggest comic book movies ever is gonna draw an audience. See how people feel mid season when it matters.

Then it's on Tuesday night. What show is it competing against?

The entire second paragraph of that announcement explained this in detail.

lol at going against The Voice and NCIS...

they not taking no viewers from those shows. There is a huge void on tv on tuesdays.

again, dont get it twisted, i want the show to succeed but the premiere was lackluster to say the least

@vibe...you trippin, the pilot from BB is what hooked me

First episode was ok. Nothing mind blowing. For some reason as I was watching it I couldn't help but to think about the Heroes TV show. I just hope the writing gets better. It was very cliche'. I'm wondering what happened to Coulson when Marie Smulders and Ron Glass were talking and she said "He must never know".

I think he was actually dead for a while and they found a way (maybe using some form of that super soldier serum) to bring him back and implanted memories of him taking leave in Tahiti.

I think he knew he died and was brought back because he implied "coming back from somewhere" or when the subject of dying came up, he mentioned "been there".

I think they need an over-arching, season long plot. Only question that was left unanswered is the doctors who were administering the serum and who they work for. They should have a greater being to rival all of what's going on. This "freak of the week" is not gonna cut it.

I'm not expecting to see the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Wolverine, Spider Man, etc. So to compensate they need to up the action and how can there be a Shield show with no Nick Fury?

when will these tv shows learn to get motherfucker that can act shit pisses me the fuck off it's like only amc,fx or premium cable(except true blood)care about good acting only show on these basic cable networks with good acting is elementary

Was not interested in the show because they were not going to have any notable characters and lack the budget to deliver super powered characters anyway. This results in a show more generic than the xbox.
