1st off what do u mean by majority of the populace can't relate ?
don't the minority of the populace, constantly go to movies that they can't relate to???
but still enjoy, because it was a good movie???
150+ movies come out a year, and the majority of the populace, can't sit thru one movie that they can't relate too???
is Harry Potter relate-able?
how many movie goers, go to a school of witchcraft and wizardry?
is SpiderMan relate-able?
how many folks out here, are climbing walls and slinging webs?
majority of the characters Johnny Depp plays, are non relate-able wacky figures. yet it don't stop ppl from going to see his flicks.
They are all still white.
Exactly....
The vast majority of the movie going public is white....thats the reality. Being the majority of a minority doesnt mean your going to get the same amount of support as something that will appeal to the masses.
You make it seem like there is some sort of requirement that the majority support the minority with their wallets. They are under no obligation to do so. You mentioned Roots....it was free....it was damn near 50 years ago...there werent NEARLY the amount of media mediums then to choose from as there is now.
All of the characters you mentioned were all white...people go to movies to connect and escape. They need to connect with the character or the environment, culture...something. The Johnny Depp comparison is just idiotic.
You ASSUME that Marvel will inject white characters....again if anything Marvel has gone the complete opposite way Nick Fury and Heimdall. Now are you going to tell me that Avengers and Thor were fucked up because Heimdall and Nick Fury were made black??
Again BP is going to be part of the MMU...neither Spiderman nor Batman are part of these universes so its pointless to bring them up. Wakanda is to BP what Asgard is to Thor. In order for him to be brought into the MMU part of the movie will HAVE to be set in the States....you know LIKE IN HIS ORIGIN!

This is America not Europe, Whites are only 33-35% of the population, minorities make up 60 something %.
Yet year in and year out, the 60 something %, support movies that only represents the 33%.
Yet the 33% can't support 1 movie that don't represent them??????

^i said marvel would fuck BLack Panther's story line up, to meet holly wood's status quo, of the portrayal of blacks.
Bawse D.Lox;4655368 said:Roots is 35 years old, not even 40 yet, idk how u get to 50 years. free or not, ppl still watched. how many free t.v programming suffers from low ratings? exactly.
Bawse D.Lox;4655368 said:and fourth , let's back peddle to ppl's reactions. when the Black Panther rumors came out. ppl where excited and comment sections through out the internet, where filled with anticipation and wonders.
wonders based on, who's the right character to play Black Panther, majority of the comments were made by whites who were fans. So i doubt they would have a problem with the movie if depicted as in the comics.
riddle me this, who you think would potentially make more money Black Panther or Guardian Of The Galaxy????

Ironman wasn't exactly a household name, and now it's pretty much the premiere Marvel movie franchise. I don't know how GotG will turn out, but if they market it right and the move looks good, people will go see it just off of that and the fact that it's a Marvel movie. On top of that, it's confirmed that Thanos will have a presence in the movie. People who saw Avengers and want to know who the purple guy at the end was will want to see this movie to find out.
Honestly, this movie could be a bust. However, it's been a while since there has been a really good space based action thriller. If Marvel pulls this off, it could be a hit.

What?!? Are you serious? Iron Man has been known for years. I'm not gonna front I didn't think it was gonna be as a movie as it turned out to be but its way more know to fans then GotG.

We're not talking about known to comic book fans. We're talking about known to the average movie goer. Yeah, you can make the argument that Ironman was more known even to them than GotG and you'd be right. That said, Ironman was not a household name. The majority of people who have supported that franchise were not really familiar with the character before the movie. So the idea that GotG can't work because no one knows them is stupid. No one knew the cast of Star Wars before it was made, and look what it's become. GotG already has a leg up on that because its going to be marketed as part of an extended movie universe that is hot right now.
