Marc Lamont Hill and Vlad Debate Nas Being the Worst Beat Picker of All Time

One thing someone like Jay z or camron or ghostfsce have always done is pick beats that are perfectly for one of their flows or styles. They meld into the beat, they roll with it, lay in the cut at the right time, know when to let shit breathe at the right time, know when to let the punchline hit, all that shit...

Some rappers can do this well. Gucci mane is another that comes to mind, as does Kendrick... Again I'm not saying these are the BEST rappers, I'm just saying they pick beats that are best for them and meld or accent their styles

I will admit, Nas does not do this very well. Sometimes he sounds great on a track and other times he sounds ridiculous, like that fast rapping song he has on i am. He does not know how to maximize his strengths and minimize his weaknesses.

Marc lamont hill is a fox news coon all on bill o'reilly nuts sucking that man off on the factor.

Wyclef destroyed canibus career with those awful beats on his highly anticipated first album. That had to be one of if not the worst produced rap album I ever heard from an "A" type lyricist.

Nas shudda stayed with super producers man after It Was Written a lotta his album cuts are just awful

Nas intentionally avoids trendy beats that's why you may not like the beats today but years later it has aged gracefully.

So we really gonna act like the IC hasn't been saying that about Nas since 2005?

I was thinking the same thing, ppl on the ic have always said this

Poster would say they would like Rick Ross to be executive producer for Nas next album or they would hear a new rick ross song and posters would say why can't Nas pick beats like this.

Cosign on Canibus as the pick. Royces be selection seemes to improve right around the Bar Exam series.

I can "feel" beat...and I can tell off the feel if a beat is wack sometimes. Sometimes I ask friends and homies straight up if a beat sounds wack to them just to verify it.

So based off principle..........................................fuck yo ears you lil midget motherfucker.

Nastradamus has aged very poorly. Those beats sound like they are stuck in a time of cookie-cutter synth production from the late 90s no one wants to remember.

I don't know, some people like that album, but I think the production on that album is terrible. It Was Written, by contrast, has aged well. Street's Disciple, not so much. That album got glowing reviews when it came out, even though everyone was secretly or not so secretly a bit bored by it, and now, it's rarely mentioned at all.

I Am... has aged maybe somewhat better, or at least, some of the songs that were great then are still valued.

His other albums have dope production.

Basically Nas was hit with the 'worst bit picker' back in the late 90s/early 2000s after he only had a few albums under his belt and his last three were considered underwhelming efforts (I Am..., Nastradamus, and The Firm album).

But he's dropped seven albums since then that have had mostly dope production. So when I hear someone say "Nas can't pick beats" I usually assume that they are just old, out of touch, or haters too lazy to get with the facts and come up with an original criticism of Nas. Or a combination of all three.

Vlad is 43, a Jay-Z stan, and has shitty taste in contemporary rap, so I'm going to bill him for all three and count his opinion null and void.
