That nigga got music forever and under a million different names with a lot of different niggas, it's probably just easier to just find a Madlib mix somewhere and let it ride. I'd start off with Quasimoto or Lootpack (his group) and go from there. That Soundpieces: Da Antidote and Lost Tapes albums are my shit forever. Madvillainy (with DOOM), The shit with Gibbs, Dilla, the Beat Konducta instrumentals, Shades of Blue are all fire, too.

Lol that’s what it seemed like which is why I needed yall to tell me what the best shit is

He got shit for days, bruh. The shit I listed ain't nowhere close to all of his shit I like. You just gotta find a mix lol.

He also has "yesterday's new quintet" which is jazz. He takes jazz records and samples different instruments and uses those samples to make new songs.

AS MUCH AS I LIKE LORD QUAS...

ITS REALLY HARD TO RECOMMEND THAT TO ANYONE...

I ENJOYED THE 1ST ONE, BUT ITS DEFINITELY SOME STONER, CARTOON & CEREAL RAP...

The 1st shit i ever heard of Madlib was the Dudley Perkins - A Lil Light instrumentals back in late 04 or 05. My homie had that cd. I borrowed it from him knowing I wasn't giving it back to him. Then I heard most of his shit after that.

As much as i think Dilla the GOAT. Madlib might really be the GOAT fam. Even Dilla knew what it was. Questlove said he got a call from Dilla & he said Madlib was killing him & Madlib was going where he wanted to go beatwise

*Ricky Bobby voice* I say this with all due respect... if you don't like weed, cartoons and cereal, you're a shitty human being and need to be publicly executed.

They are definitely neck and neck for me. If you havent seen it already, i highly recommend checking out "Our Vinyl Weighs a Ton". Its a doc about Stones Throw Records from the beginning days until today. I believe its on Netflix. But they go over all the big albums and their creation a bit. The signing of Dilla and Madlib. PB Wolf said the attitude was always the same between them, Dilla was on his way solo and heard the Lootpack album and started following Madlib and the style Madlib had was the exact type of stuff Dilla was trying to do and madlib was always a fan of Dilla from the SV records. Said when they finally linked up it was like they had the same brain. Dudes inspired eachother. Wish Dilla was still alive so we could see what he would have evolved into.

The Dilla segment of that doc had me all in my feels, shit was sad, especially seeing him on stage in the wheelchair.

Dumb, i half assed read your post and basically said the same shit you said lol. Questlove was in the doc and said that same shit.

I like Madlib but I don’t know how to describe his sound

That's a good thing, a lot of producers can't only make the same signature sound work for them. Shows he's cultured, Madlib can make anything hot and he's in his own lane

Nigga gave some crack to Dudley Perkins too

Dudley Perkins is so Underrated lol. Never hear anyone talking about him. His wife is pretty dope too, Georgia Ann Muldrow or w/e her name is.

This was my intro to Dudley. Also one of my favorite Madlib Beats.

DISTORTED SAMPLE-BASED FUNK?

I can see that.

Yea, it's tough for me to put a figure on. I think it's because of his drum work is a bit various.

this madlib beat touches my soul

the srums, the samples, the adlibs, the way the beats switch up.

madlib is an absolute genius....i love the way he samples ....its like he stretches the sample in a way in which they should be displeasing to the ear (like all grainy sounding)but he makes them sound perfect. He got himself a lil secret with his samples:
