Rappers I think are better then Lupe

Nas

Jay Z

Tupac

ice Cube

Andre 3000

Big Boi

Bun B

Pimp C

E 40

Kendrick Lamar

Ghostface

Big

DOOM

Black Thought

Mos Def

Scarface

Prodigy

Aight he's top 20

Hmmm, Everyone is entitled to their opinion but just a couple of observations:

You stated that "lyrics" aren't everything but what about the ability to conceptualize, diversify one's sound and topic matter as well appeal to multiple audiences? Lu has accomplished all of that. Black on Both Sides is one of my favorite albums, but no way do the rest of Mos' releases compare to Lupe's catalog. Doom is lyrical, but lacks charisma and structure. E-40 and Pimp C(seriously?) DO you think those two dudes could create something like Gotta Eat or Mural? 3 Stacks is incredible, but until he comes out with 4 more solo albums, then we can debate. Prodigy skills have eroded showing he can't stand the test of time. Scarface is one of the greats but when is the last time he has dropped something relevant outside of The Fix. Kendrick hasn't earned enough stripes. If you really want to compare LU I say stack his five releases against any of the acts you have listed first five, that's even if they have five solo releases, and see who comes out on top. You'll notice that your list will shrink incredibly!

Fuck yo logic nigga lol na I guess when you put it that way I can see your point. I'm sure a lot of you look at me putting Lupe outside my top 15 as a slight but really it's a great compliment to rank him that high. He's still got a lot of work left and I expect him to move up that list over time but for now that where he stands.

Niggas slighting Lupe by stating he only brings lyricism to the table.

Dude is a complete emcee.

Who said that?

It's one of his biggest strengths which is why I brought it up but to say that I even implied that is a reach.

Its not a reach, you listed a bunch of rappers who Lupe are either better or at least on par with on everything talent wise minus album sales.... you used his biggest strength as a crutch to undermine him. Cause if you didnt, you wouldnt have tried to tell us that E-40 is better.

I used his biggest strength because that's what he's know for not as a crutch. He's not

perfect. His beat selection has been questionable.. his mic presence is not that strong. He hasn't impacted the game as much as a lot of the greats. Dude has flaws and ironically his biggest strength which is his lyrical ability can also be seen as a weakness due to him losing a lot of people who aren't as cerebral and coming off sounding too preachy in some verses. Look I love Lupe just as much as any of you but to say he's top 10 or whatever at this point just ain't the case. Stop being prisoners of the moment

Nothing wrong with lupes beat selection, with the exception of lasers. His beats have been pretty good and most importantly they fit him and his delivery

Lupe was in my top 10 before this album, so... yeah. Once again, these are just personal opinions though. No one is wrong for feeling the way they do.

Nobody said he's perfect LOL

All the things you're talking : mic presence, impact (which is in the same realm as sales so Idk why you bring that up) beat selection, etc.... again are all things that in his overall emcee are STILL better than or at least on par with your said 20 or however many it was rappers. Nobody is being prisoners of any moment because Lupe BEEN this good. This shit isnt new. He made the album everyone basically knew he could make. So I stand by my original comment.

Finally catching up. Damn I hate that fuckin banjo song lol. That and the interludes fall into the "trying too hard to be ARTISTIC™" category for me.

other than that...........

yeah, this is his best album. He always been a top tier lyricist, the problem been everything else.

Not this time tho. When the production works, it's utterly amazing. Great Cortex flip on Murals. Body of Work is glitch-hop at its finest. Chopper BANGS, obviously. No Scratches feels Phil Collins-esque.

Add in some great hooks and the unbelievable lyrical depth others have pointed out...? Classic AT WORST.

Forest Hills Drive vs. this album is a mismatch, sorry Cole lol.

Prodigy did fall off but he bounced back pretty good with the last mobb deep album and albert einstein. And return of the mac wasnt bad either

Return of the Mac was GOAT and my AOTY pick for 2007, fuuuuuck that

A lot of the beats on F&L and The Cool was dope. The problem was Lasers which most of the beats was picked by label. If you look at TI on Paper Trails he had some of the same pop type production. Point is Lupe only had one weak(and it wasn't a bad album just a disappointment coming after The Cool) album. He is a complete MCs.
