so its the label's fault and where is the accountability on lupe's part?

Well although the beats are the labels"s fault, lupe to me felt uninspired lyrically most of the album. However hear the lupe hardcore stans tell it.. The lyrics were still good. And I consider myself a huge fan

The thing is, it's not like he WANTED to make the album sound like this. It's not really that cut and dry as much as you haters would like it to be.

why not release the singles the label want but fill up the album witht he music he wanted to make? i'm sure a lot of those songs were music he wanted to make and wasn't forced to do it by the label.

I remember he said in a video that they gave him some 60 tracks to record.

Yea, he had to choose from a list of beats and hooks to use for the album after they rejected his first version of the album

no different than any other artist? no?

Umm very different. I never heard of no shit like that happening.....well in hip hop

he did the same thing for his first album, how you think he got a collabo with jill scott? the labels have always thrown their weigth around on rappers especially in this day and age. if lupe wanted creative freedom he has to be on jay z/eminem level (which he is not) or go indy and with his fanbase that would make a lot of sense at this point.

@ Bolded- Really jamacia? Source?

Anyways nah bruh you must not have been paying attention to hip-hop for a while. I don't remember seeing a label pretty much dictate how the album sounds. Giving artists a list of producers they can work with due to the budget? Yea sure, but a list of beats and hooks that they have to use in order for the album to come out? Nah you trippin homie

the label put that collabo together, i bet jill scott recorded that hook over the beat and the label gave it to lupe or he chose it. do you remember biggie complaining about puffy dictating the sound of his album so they compromised by biggie recording a few songs puffy liked and a few biggie liked. or how nas changed his sound on it was written after illmatic (intially flopped).

the label giving the artist a set amount of producers is the same thing.
