MacOne its easy to shit on these old classics now because The Recession just dropped 2 years ago. In terms of impact during their times It Takes A Nation of Millions obviously wins. Jeezy did a great job of talking about poverty and how the actions of the federal government affected the hood but at the same time I don't feel like he explained himself enough.. Like I said.. it didn't go in depth enough like talking about why things are the way they are. As a "political album" The Recession isn't better than Untitled, 2pacalypse Now, AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted, etc... now I'm not saying The Recession isn't better than these other albums (thats really just opinion)... because The Recession is no doubt a great album that speaks to me and in my opinion has a lot of soul... BUT as far as political content-its not ranking up with the greats.

Anyways though... Marvin Gaye's political albums>>>

Im not shitting on Millions, wtf you talking about? Its a classic, it just sounds dated to me and I prefer the recession.

And if I wanna know why the economy is in a recession... I dont look to rappers for answers, I look to economists. You got the wrong role models son

smh @ these niggas not getting the connection between Jeezy saying "My president is black and my lambo's blue". Lambo is a metaphor for Lamb, as in it's being led to the slaughter because of the republican administration. The "blue" has double meaning, not just as a color but the state he's in because of the economic collapse of the country....also Blue is being used a symbolism for democratic blue that will be found on the election map. Jeezy kept mentioning "Blue" to get it in the minds of the people that they need to vote for Democratic Blue come election time.

Jeezy just over some of you niggas heads.

lol not even Jeezy meant that chorus to be that deep and the blue could mean his gang affiliation.

Not at all doggy... Believe me I have a firm grasp on economics... I don't need to be "taught" by Jeezy but it would have been nice if he gave us a little more background on what he's talking about and some explanation.. not just it happens.

At least make reference to the banks or something.... well you know... I've bumped the shit out of The Recession but its been a few months.. I'ma go back and analyze it today just to be fair....

But here's an example of going some what in depth but not being too preachy:

The Master of the Masses
One has power
The other one lacks it
Guns are power
Controlled by assets
Owned by financial forecasters
Who are the Masters?
They are the Gangsters
They are the bankers
The ones who tax us
The Masses
They are us
The sheep, the people
Divided in classes
I go off like a Shite bomb
And All ya'll see I'm on my
War paint on my face, shit
My nine mm on my waist, shit
I'm a problem
Shoot up your place shit
Let a few go
Then I get low
Blazing Haze again
The Masters, The Wall Street War Chiefs
The Elitists Groups
The Masses
They pray to Jesus
Saying he will see us through
The Masters are the aristocratic
The Masses
Ask if the Most High
Is On his way here
I'm trying to stay clear
My mind is my modern day Spear

If thats the case then "a former drug dealer" wasn't able to produce the greatest political album in terms of content.

You may not like the content but he related his past experiences to current situation, that is political/social commentary

Thats the thing dunny. I DO like the content and all that but as a political concept album I feel that he needed to touch on different perspectives and go into more detail for it to be on par with the other albums that have been brought up in this thread. Being a former drug dealer isn't an excuse.

This thread is dumb and I am sad that I read this but Im more sad that somebody actually believes this. Smarten Up threadstarter and get your head out your ass. Actually never mind I've change my mind, your right, the rapper named Young Jeezy is probably the single most influential political musician that has ever lived just based off of his song "My President." I mean the lyrics aren't complex so it's not like I need to figure out what he's saying and the beat is the shit so I can bob my head to it. Since those are really the only two criteria for a good political song and since he covers both of them so well than, damn, its got to be the best song about politics that anybody has ever created. Obama owes so much of his political success to Young Jeezy. Thank God for Jeezy cause he articulates the struggle so well to the whole world.

As Gza would say

Yo, too many songs, weak rhymes that's mad long

Make it brief Son, half short and twice strong

Jeezys strength is getting his point across in simple lines with a strong delivery

If he started rapping about washington mutual and glass steagall I would just laugh at him and toss his album into the trash

This would be a sad scenario if it was serious.

Its a good idea to call the Recession a "political" album, now we can call Commons "Be", The Roots "Things fall apart", and Styles P.'s "Supergangster" political albums.

Now that Jeezy has done the political, lets see if he can do the cultural.

i'll be as honest as possible, i can't see how the recession made any real impact. okay, my president is black was popular during the obama campaign...and...? there have been many more popular singles with no real impact also. there isn't anything special about that album, imo, and it is easily forgettable.

I hate threads like thiis because then you got people who come in and try to act like The Recession was wack to prove their point or pick through for errors but Im not sure you can classify it as a political album though it had some songs relating to current issues, not really political
