so no one mention the line aimed at DMX on Takeover?

"Do not bark up that tree, that tree will fall on you" ?????

lol i dont see anything possibly aim at X

I think he meant the alleged subliminal in "The Ruler's Back".

Specifically these lyrics.

"Here's a couple of jewels to help you get through your bid in prison

A ribbon in the sky, keep your head high

I, Young 'Vito, voice of the young people

Mouthpiece for hustlers - I'm back, motherfuckers

Your reign on the top was shorter than leprechauns

Y'all can't fuck with Hov', what type of X y'all on?"

The lyrics doesn't really make sense tho & nor is that a clear enough shot so it's hard to point that one out. Cuz by 2001 DMX was still one of the biggest rappers/actors out. Had "Who We Be", "We Right Here" & "Ain't No Sunshine" on heavy rotation as well as the flick "Exit Wounds" which did some numbers, but who knows..

There was some growing tension between DMX and Jay-z around that time. When I heard that line in Takeover and the bars on Rulers back, I just took it as jab to DMX, to me it just made sense.

No you misunderstood me. I meant what Jay-Z said didn't really make sense cuz DMX was at his peak as far as global reach & worldwide popularity. I'd say Jay-Z, Eminem, Ja Rule, DMX, Nelly, Outkast, Busta Rhymes & maybe a few others were the most popular rappers at the time imo.

To me I just think Jay was boasting about taking his spot back more than anything

Your single was 99 cents, mines was 4 bucks

Last year, when niggas thought it was all up

But this year I've done it again, jigga!

What the fuck

Nigga stop whining, jigga, still shining

Niggas kept complaining so I copped more diamonds

Rock more Versace, ain't nothing sweet

I still throw t'ree in your body, fleeing the party

Y'all can't go with me, nope, flow with me

Bet 50, not dollars either I brought some dough with me

I flow like the 5 series, in various areas

And blow holes in your weak niggas theories

It's funny how one verse can fuck up the game - "IMAGINARY PLAYER"

Honestly i always thought this song was a slight jab at Nas, more so these specific bars

About DMX/ I unno, maybe. I definitely think the lines were aimed at him tho but i can see why it isn't a stand out sublim' .

About the lyrics in "Imaginary Player"/ What are those bolded lines a references too? Can't think of anything off the top. Assuming you're saying the last line is about the whole "Dead Presidents" thing, or?

The last line from what I heard was Jay response to the fact Nas snub him for not being in the video for "Can't Knock the Hustle", hence the Nas line in Ether "You make records about me/blatantly or indirectly.

The "yours 99 cent mines is 4 bucks" line had to do with Jay z alluding to how he was making more money off his records then Nas was. There was article I read on how Nas didnt got shitted on his contract with his label.

Dissing and battling is corny.drop one diss directly and keep it moving..let the fans decide.

Its like hearing bitches argue.

He got at major figgas on the entire verse of Put Ya Hands up

Got at Fat Joe on Bump Bump Bump freestyle

"New Proud owner of the nets, no diploma no regrets/So dont talk about the rucker mutha fucker i am set"

Got at R Kelly on snitch lovers

"The singer rob called police on me/ yall niggas went out to go cop the cd

Got at Ma$e and Harlem world on Mind Right remix

"Using my name in vein like I won't damage the boy/You think niggas was shooting you out of canons before/Niggas is pompous, first they in Evil Kanevil jumpers/Then they turning over Rovers like they want it with Hova/It's not about rich and po', nigga, it's about Richard Poe/Understand I'm here to get this dough/it ain't about Brooklyn or Harlem/No more them it's about fame or stardom/It's about me being on blocks you barred from.

Your sure that isn't rich and Poe...like rich porter and alpo.

Jay a passive aggressive ass nigga...I wonder how he survived the streets

Well, he wouldn't have survived the 'rap game' if he treated it exactly like the streets as you've seen by so many that's been blackballed, imprisoned, murdered, etc. At the same time, any 'game' involves thinking so I'd say his approach in not taking direct shots is calculated based on who has more to gain out of the situation. Basically, he said it best w/ this line : 'to make a nigga die bleeding is nothing, you make a muthafucka die breathing then you saying something.'

Jay uses subliminals b/c theres nothing in it for him to say people's names.

'If i shoot u, im brainless

If u shoot me, u famous...'

Sublimes is that happy medium.

Fact: 10, 20 yrs from now Jay gon b doin some next level power shyt, and these dudes will b givin interviews tryin to convince people they 'beefed' with jay z. Only there'll b no concrete evidence on wax...

You sound like a fanboy duke. Relax with all that extra shit which doesn't even make sense for every person that went at him.

You sound just like Jay-Z's recent fans, i call it Jayonce fan. The fact that he makes money, he does "power moves" means so much to you.

Now where's you in his mentions? Do that math, faggot.

Are we sure jay isn't responding? Most of this thread makes it seem initiated.. about the budden thing... he did a whole mixtape goin off people beats is it something there cause he was overcharging for what they did to the cold crush?

LISTEN: “People Talkin’” (2000)

LYRIC: “But if you testing my life then, shit I gotta answer/Gotta cut off the cancer, young’n, pull your pants up/You getting too big for ya’ britches, you fucking with a dude that did it with digits” TARGET: NAS

SHOTS FIRED? PROBABLY. Faced with a losing verdict on Hot97, a lot of Jay’s confrontational lyrics in the wake of the “Takeover”/”Ether” battle seemed aimed directly at God’s Son. This entire track qualifies as evidence of his inability to lose. Gracefully, that is.

this shit cant be talkin bout Nas, at least not the way they explained it. Takeover came out in 2001, and so did Ether. in 2000 the battle hadn't even happened

In People talkin the song was about Nas but that particular line was aimed at Prodigy

Didn't read all the posts but Jigga went at rappers before he became a Household name. Like he dedicated atleast half a song on Ma$e with "Ride or Die" because Ma$e said one line on that "Love Me" from 112 that came out a few months before that.

Since he's big you won't see him dedicate more than a few subliminal lines to rappers. I guess he feels he's too big now and I can't blame him...

LYRIC: “You little niggas ain’t deep, you dumb/You niggas ain’t gangsta, you gum, I chew lil’ niggas/Hock-too, spew lil’ niggas/I can only view lil’ niggas like lil niggas”

^^^^····this sounds like a blatant mobb deep diss, but Complex says its at Wayne?........I dont know......

I always knew jay has some weird fixation with battling nas like he felt he was never gonna be king if he didn't battle the dude or something.

Jay came off as a Stan alot of times regarding nas like wtf..couldnt wait for any excuse to got at his neck and he didn't really need to.

It's the major crack in jays career and I'm one that thinks takeover was a better diss than ether.but dude initiated and the returned fire when the streets said nas won and were basically getting sick of his camel looking ass anyways.

Had jay dropped takeover and fell back I think people would have considered this battle differently.
