Lmao so it took 20yrs for this nigga album to go plat but new niggas doing that in 6months to a yr.....old school lost

Unnecessary comment . It took 15 years for Illmatic to go platinum. With the lyrics Nas had on the album and the age he was during the time he wrote Illmatic, that itself should be platinum the same year it dropped.

illmatic went platinum in 2001. It's at 1.8 now.

Also GZA deserves this . He was like a father to all . He was the first who rapped , he taught ODB , and several others. When Raekwon and the rest of the gang were in the studio and did the music they all was inspired by GZA. Nigga dropped album in 1991 or so, he had cyphers with Big Daddy kane n shit. He been in the game for a very long game. He really deserve this platinum album

GZA and ODB freestyle from 1991.

thanks for this

Its hard to believe that Liquid Swords went Platinum before Only Built For Cuban Linx.

Then again, OB4CL was mixed kinda strange. The sound quality is busted on a few of the songs. I think GZA's record sounds better sonically.

OBFCL has been plat in the US for a min now fam.

According to this link, Only Built For Cuban Linx isn't platinum;

"Liquid Swords" just became the first Wu-Tang album in 11 years to go platinum.

It took twenty years, but GZA's magnum opus Liquid Swords has finally gone platinum. In the September edition of their monthly gold/platinum announcement flyer, the RIAA announced that the album officially crossed the threshold of one million units sold on September 15th. LS dropped on November 7, 1995.

Produced entirely by RZA, Liquid Swords is widely considered to be one of the best solo members from a Wu-Tang member, along with Raekwon's Only Built For Cuban Linx... -- also released in 1995. I guess now we're just waiting on that to go platinum too.

It is the first Wu-Tang album to go platinum since Ghostface Killah’s Ironman, in 2004.

Congrats to GZA and the rest of the Wu.

Edit.

Although according to wikipedia, it sold 1.1 million

RIAA still has OB4CL as Gold only. I'm not surprised though. I'm not sure how many on here are old enough to remember, but OB4CL got released early and was heavily bootlegged before that even really became a thing. They had to pull it back and re-release a different version just to try and recoup.

Crazy OB4CL really had some hits. Strange that it didnt go plat within some years. Mafioso rap never did great numbers.

Liquid swords is WU best lyrically album. Its also well produced but every song on OB4CL is a classic therfor OB4CL is on my top 3 album.

But this is same thing to ask a nigga do you prefer Coca cola or Pepsi? It may change each week. Its two great albums Wu best albums group or solo .

Method man went plat even if his albums wasnt better than OB4CL or Liquids. With that said popularity does alot. Beani sigel may be a beast, he may be signed under a mainstream rapper but as long as he raps bout killing, robbing people and not rap bout girls and having R&b bitches on his track he aint gonna see plat. Thats simple. But what makes rapper strong and respectable like gza, beani, raekwon is that they will never change, plat or not. Thats what I call.....REALNess.

People are also kinda underestimating how hard it was to go platinum back then too. Rappers used to brag about going gold in songs not platinum and definitely not diamond.

I think even slow burn platinums are hard. People might still pick up something like OB4CL, but they don't have to buy it to listen to it. They just DL it or listen to it on something like Spotify.
