Wayne is the best rapper alive. His reach goes beyond one region of the country.

His appeal extends beyond regional lines, racial lines, age and genres.

Scarface is a legend but he's inactive, T.I. is a beast but he prefers prison to society.

Waynes music is appreciated by the public.

True, but I see what you saying with this thread. If anyone was to lay claim to KING of the south it has to be Wayne.

Wayne is a multi-platinum artist who has a cult following and the two hottest rap-artists in the world on his label.

He's been doing it since 1997 around the time JayZ dropped "Reasonable Doubt", and he's only 28...imagine his legacy when he gets to Jigga's age in about 12 more years.

I aint from the south so I can't tell you how he's accepted down there but I dont thin he's a good enough rapper to be put in that category.

He's not exactly inactive, he just takes enough time to make sure the album is actually good. And that's why he has one of the most consistent careers ever with three certified classics and legendary albums together with Geto Boys. Anyone can make a bunch of random songs that are unfinished and put it together and release them as weekly mixtapes, but few actually take the time to make sure the product is actually worth it. Besides, he just prefers to stay underground than making whack ass club anthems or female music. And still, he has had numerous platinum and gold albums over the years.

And last time I checked, I thought it's skills > mass appeal. But I guess not.

I hate T.I.'s new album but he is more of a king of the south than Weezy is or ever was.

Wayne is in the running for King of rap period with Kanye but I am from the south and he was never the best down south. What I mean by that is the best at making southern music. Lollipop and that stuff is for the charts and mainstream. Honestly I think that is why he is so successful because he is getting alot of love on the west/east coast from being diverse. Where as T.I., Jeezy, and them are almost local artist at this point.

I am leaning toward Gucci right now currently but overall over the last ten Tip without a doubt.

Southern Classics better than any Wayne Album : Trap Musik, Urban Legend, King, Chopper City in the Ghetto, 400 degreez, any UGK or Scarface album.

I gotta throw it out there I believe that Rick Ross had the best year of any southern artist but why is he still under the radar ?

He should be King of the south but the love ain't there. It is still crazy to me that BMF and AMM were not top ten or higher. If Wayne, or Tip dropped those two they would be top tens, maybe even Gucci Mane cause wasted got high on the charts. Jeezy's lose my mind was higher than BMF LOL

Man, its the south. If he really wants that crown he can take it. Smh

It's not that eazy, Jay-z was almost never that big down south and Nas down south LOL Wu Tang LOL I love Kanye but ain't nobody bumping that down here

The South likes who it likes that is why I say Gucci Mane is the King right now

Based on the criteria I shared: longevity, sales, mass appeal, talent-scouting....who is doing it bigger from the South??

Longevity: Scarface >>>>>>>>> anyone from the south

Sales: Currently, Lil Wayne is one of the only few rappers to sell but in general he's not the only southern rapper to have had the sales

Mass appeal: He's got it without a doubt.

Talent-scouting: There are plenty of them in the south, though no one manages to get success out of them as Wayne does.

Going by these criterias, Wayne has got it but I always thought skills is more important than anything else, which is where Face takes it.
