Let me educate you:

Intelligent people don't compare solo-album sales

to label-compilation sales unless we want to put

on our snow-suits and start asking why Emenims

label compilation "The Re-Up" only sold 1 million

copies while his most recent album sold 4 million

copies.

You need to find a better comparison or else you

will undermine your own argument when

somebody comes along and reminds you that

Lupe Fiasco did 200K first week last year or that

Mac Miller did 144K first week last year (on an

indie) or that MMG's Wale did 165K first week last

year.

Life is Good is an excellent album regardless of

how much it sells.

Its not really relevant because Re-Up is old as hell, its like 5 years old. Eminem was able to push D12 & a bunch of unknowns to respectable sales they wouldn't have gotten on their own anyway, its what he and other super-marketable artists do. And let's not forget 50 Cent was apart of that re-up fiasco as well.

That's perfectly fine about Lupe & Mac they are cool with me and considering they also didn't get the play MMG does makes what they did even more amazing. Especially Mac Miller considering he is on an Indie label and I never saw one video or heard any singles.

Wale also piled his album with RNB cats and chicks went and bought it but that's fine. I'm a Wale fan too by the way even though I preferred Attention Deficit to Ambition I understand the increased visibility helped him a lot. Lotus Flower Bomb did its job, I'm sure he's happy with its performance.

I'm cool with the sales of Mac, Lupe, Wale & Nas. In fact I won't even remember this shit in a couple weeks. The music speaks for itself...that's all that matters.

The radio and Viacom (MTV/BET) can play niggas all day and they still barely lead the pack. I'm not entirely sure who the onus is on to fix that, hell I'm not even sure its a problem but it says a lot about the state of the game.

Nas' name still carries weight 20 years into his career as he pushes 40 years old. Nas never sold records like Jay, 50, Wayne & Em but he managed to put out a record that didn't have any real successful singles and do well despite that fact.

He could have sold 20k copies and that would have been alright. I recognize he's no juggernaut in the market department, he just does what he always does and that's make great albums. It just so happens he got a little extra umph with debuting #1 this time around.

dam b, a nigga havent been on this site since the great hack and odiesel fat ass was here but i had to come by just to say: life is good. Nas did his thing on this album he deserves it. dam shit feel different around here.

thanks bro! Salute

Once Nicki Minaj only did 220k first week, plus Chris Brown & Usher did 135k first week recently I said wow.

My Expectations went down for Life is Good debut. He & Def Jam couldn't have marketed this album any better.

I thought 150-200k because of the push & good press. 200k or better is good for an artist of Nas caliber. 150k is just okay or solid. 150k was the floor.

It's will probably stall out in 400k range but will still be certified Gold because Def Jam will ship 500k to the stores because of the tremendous press the album has received.

Ok ChasinBundles is an idiot. If Nas' intention was to do 500k in the first week he would have marketed more radio friendly songs. If Nas' intention was to make a good album and he did that how did he lose? In this climate unless youre the white boy from Detroit, Jay, Ye or Ymcb you're not seeing crazy numbers in the first week. This album like his last

Like he did with 'Hero' featuring an R&B chick, Keri Hilson... nice try but it was a flop... and radio riendly songs is Naz' achilles heel... he cant make em lol... and he fails everytime he tries.

@Zorrow.. what album in 99' did Nas sell 470k with 1st week.. ur so disappointed bout his underwhelming sales that ur making stuff up now... sad.

I Am sold 470k its first week... This is back when Hip Hop albums sold big numbers and Nas was making radio hits like "Hate Me Now" featuring Diddy, which he was very successful at doing when WE THE FANS let him.

Then after "You Owe Me" motherfuckers hated on Nas so much that he gave up making those radio friendly tracks. And did it hurt him in any way??? NOT REALLY.

Hip Hop is Dead beat Jeezy's Inspiration's first week numbers in '06 and sold 355k with ZERO RADIO PLAY when Jeezy's "Go Getta" was playing fucking everywhere. Nas gets no radio play, his shit always leaks, and he still goes #1... NO ONE else in Hip Hop can say that. Ye and Jay included.

The man has 8 platinum solo albums, 1 Gold solo album, and just dropped his sixth number one album this week (which will easily go GOLD, even in this climate) with his THIRD XXL rating...

Life is Good...

Nothing against Nas but I'd say it is sort of underwhelming..... they were promoting that album pretty heavy. I thought it would've done close to double what it did.

Conversely, the quality of music on that album makes the sales irrelevant. Nobody gonna be remembering the exact numbers it did in the first week, but we will remember the music. Sure he might not have the big sales but he does still have the ability to drop classic material and reaffirm his place as one of the best MCs in the game. Almost 20 years later and we still know Nas name.

& BTW Streets Disciple was a double album.... he's never been a big seller out the gate but he's always gone platinum. I'm curious to see what Rick Ross does in the first week, there's no way he's topping this.

No they didnt Nas could put Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Drake, Jay Z if he wanted to sell 250k+ but nah he kept it real.

Nas didnt have any singles that charted well. if they had that it could be 250k atleast

For this climate, those are respectable numbers. The highest selling album released in 2012 sold around 970K which was Lionel Richie's Tuskeegee. It did 199K in it's first week. When just under platinum has been the ceiling for releases in 2012, selling over 10% of that in the first week is respectable.

Look their will be no more super selling rappers any more those days are over i predict the only rappers that will sell a lot of albums from now on will be those connected to jay-z or kanye. Ross is going to flop and WAYNE next album won't live up to his previous. Drake will still sell but he's not a rapper, any body else will be lucky to reach 500,000.

This will be bad for hip-hop's bank account but will be good for it's soul because the music will get better. All the rappers who don't respect the artform and just see rap as an easy way to get money will slowly die off, leaving the real ARTIST to thrive.

Man would I love for that to happen.
