Your main consumer for rap music is not really paying attention to lyrics for the most part. What stands out more in todays songs IMO is the hooks which is sad to me yo.

Rap interview about an album my era

Interviewer "what can we expect from your album"
Rapper " man I stepped my lyrics up I'm going to have you break that rewind"

Your era
Interviewer "what can we expect from your album"
Rapper " man I go them hit's, crazy collabos, song's for the ladies blah blah blah"

Make radio freindly music.Doesnt have to be bubble gum but it does have to get spins.Music designed to make people take notice of you..

That battle mc/"sucker mcs should all retire" outerspace rap shit NEVER sells.

Come on Paul it does have to be bubble gum even the most successful rapper of the last 10 years (Eminem) 1'st single is the most pop horrible shit on his albums.

Well if it was MC.I wouldnt be on no methaphysical shit.People aint trynna hear that shit..You can make songs about god, guns, women, whatever as long as its catchy, entertaining and makes sense.

Thats why guys like DMX blow up and guys like Tech 9ne dont..Its not about bubble gum its about making shit can relate too even if they never lived it.Ive never sold crack but I can relate to Jeezy cuz he makes it sound realistic, cathcy and his lyrics make sense.

Watch your subject matter and make catchy songs is basically what im saying..

You should prolly take this shit to The Reason. But that's a pretty loaded question. It depends on what your aim is. To just get a deal? To make a lot of money? To be respected in the game by your peers? To be the most popular? Very few rappers are all those things. If you focus on beats and hooks the most, then yeah, you'll prolly make a lot of money. But who really respects Gucci as a lyricist? No one. You can focus on actual lyrics, say fuck the hook and just be super nice with a pen, but how much money does Joe Budden have? (Nigga ain't broke, but you get what i mean)

You get the idea

^Well,IDK if has to be bubble gum..like bubble gum is Solja Boy level lyricism..But Big,Jay,Pun and X made major hits without dumbing it down to nursery rhymes.Like Nellys songs were bubblegum.

For example:Trap Rap,it cud be some gangsta shit but people still vibe to it cuz its catchy and it makes sense.Rickys bars are not that simple minded and people fuck with it cuz his songs had good flow and make sense.

IDK if you have to be bubblegum or super simplistic lyrics wise but at the same time...I would actually avoid being a lyrically dense rapper.Like all this "you gotta be nice with the bars" shit to me is bogus.

Id rather be a dude that can bang out good songs that make people move.Than be an ill lyricist.Being nice dont mean you can tell stories, make songs or albums or even rock the shows..

Somewhere in between is whered id be.I think you gotta make the stripjoint songs, the club, radio songs and songs for the women(and thats my personality anyways so regardless of money I would make music like that) and have sometype of depth.Take about real life personal things..

Be above the abc,123,duck duck goose shit but make the people understand wtf youre talking about as well.No enclyclopedia rap..thats not neccesary either.

I will admit Ross is the most improved lyrically in the past 3 years or so but what people are vibing to more in a Jezzy example that you use is his beats and sadly his ablibs IMO not because people can relate to the trap yo. Personally I think his lyrics are very mediocre BTW B cats out East are really using out of towner sayings now yo?

^What do you mean by the last sentence?

But I do think people can get the bars with Ricky and Jeezy tbh. They do recite the lyrics and comprehend what hes talking about unlike lets says the Wu niggas from back in the day.

Like everyone knows the lines from Ross verse on Imma Boss, the whole club sings that shit word for word. Now put on Triumph on a club and most gonna mumble that shit..Lol,thats why Big was where he was and them Wu niggas didnt like it...he made shit people could relate more to(even the heads even if they/we wanna admit or not). The actualy complexity of his lyrics wasnt above the average listeners head.

If that makes sense.
