Numbers dont mean shit as far as if u can rap good.

But numbers do prove you have a fan base.

I would think a "legend" should at least have a fan base

For your peak 1st week sales to be 21k is pretty unimpressive. And this was 2000 when albums were selling.

You considered Devin the Dude a legend.

What his numbers looking like, pimpin?

Talibs best selling album's 1st week units were 21k in the year 2000

Devins best selling album got 23k 1st week sales in 2007

Point being sales ain't the end all be all. Both Devin and Talib got dope albums and respect of their peers in the industry.

I broke the tie in favor of Talib just because

Give this man an award. You just made kweli a legend on the IC

Niggas ain't being fair so fuck it. For the record, I don't think either Trick Daddy or Talib Kweli are legends both are solidified veterans but since niggas want to be biased with their votes...

Not true, it was at its peak by 2000.

I remember because Kid A by Radiohead leaked on there months before it was due to be released and blew them up in the states.

Yeah Napster got shut down by 2001. But there were other file sharing sites like Kazaa, Soulseek and Limewire. But even still, Eminem was able to go diamond, 50 went 6X plat and Nelly went 6X plat. So it was possible to sell records during the early days of file sharing.

But regardless of sales, I still think Talib should get a mention in the book of Hip Hop.

On a side note, I remember it was Dr Dre and Metallica that were the most vocal against Napster. They said it was "stealing" and they were responsible for shutting it down.

Then Kazaa popped up. The difference between Napster and Kazaa was that Kazaa was an Australian company, so they were able to circumvent the RIAA and the American legal system.

Nowadays I use mp3juices. The secret is that you can't go directly to their website. You have to type mp3juices into the google search engine and then click the link. You can't type mp3juices.com into the toolbar because it won't work
