I just don't get it.

I get it to an extent when it's something that you're told you're "lesser" for having. It's a self affirmation because you get so much negative for things that are beyond your control (I.e. Hair and skin). The need to verbalize that can be to let those know that denigrate you basically fuck your opinion. But I agree loving yourself is most important.

You can be proud of your hair without trying to belittle someone else's, which you definitely tried. You alluded that having "4z" hair, something that isn't a true hair type, was bad... basically, you tried to call out kinkier hair in a negative manner which is why @deadeye asked what kind of connotation your words held.
