nobody knows who KRs-one is outside of a few backpacking white nerds on the internet. his music isnt played anymore.

80s rappers spit generic battle rhymes over boring break and boom bap beats and thats why they are irrelevant

Says who? A sissy with an avi of gay diddy, who is one of the culprits that played a huge role in Killin hiphop...You do realise if Kool Herc dint come from Jamaica or w/o Last Poets you would be listenin to soulless irritatin metallica European music, right? Majority of the Hiphop Media is owned by white people so thats why conscious and pro black artistes dont get radio play and that prevents them from gettin world wide exposure.... Krs is a cultural Icon too. He's well known is every continent even tho Bob Marley is more famous

if it wasnt for the jay-z's, diddys, biggies, and dr dres of the world I doubt Id be listening to the boom-bap, boring, east coast pioneer hip hop that you're gloryifying. Id rather listen to something else. Those people I just named are the ones who made hip hop a genre everyone can listen to, and globalized it.

Ask someone on the street in Paris who bob marley is, 60-70% chance they can tell you. Ask them who KRS is, they'll think it's a spy agency or some shit

You sound like you're white so you have no place to complain about white ownership of hip hop

1. hasn't made quality music in 15 years

2. has lost his mind

3. doesn't actually teach philosophy

and do you need the krs fan definition of metaphysics?
I'd like to know what you think that means, based on what KRS-ONE himself has taught you about it.

Metaphysics as i understand it is the science of understanding and analyzing all aspects of reality, subjectively and objectively. Then using the conclusions to live your life in way that embodies higher awareness period, whether its how to think, how to analyze situations, how to interact with people, how to change you life, how to solve problems in general.

then youre missing my point

people who dont listen to bob marley and never listen to reggae know who he is. he is a worldwide musical cultural icon

krs one is a hip hop pioneer but nobody outside of true hip hop heads knows or cares about him

id compare jay-z, eminem, 2pac, or biggie to be the bob marley of hip hop... not KRs

im out after this but like i said previously 15 years ago is 95 right? KRS One album was released in 95, charted was still popular. You can dismiss that but the billboard dont lie. I Got Next was released 13 yrs ago in 97, went gold. Thats a fact, check me if you think im making it up.

If philosophy is distilled to its basic definition, which is prolly point of view, then yeah he teaches philosophy. he's self taught so he prolly mixes up his own concepts with orthodox philosophy. but his analysis of a lot of issues/topics qualifies as philosophical for me, you might disagree. and i agreed with you before that krs can be crazy lol...

you might be right, im tired dont want to say something silly. but if so then there are a lot of true hip hop heads overseas. i see what youre saying though. but a lot of white folks you would never expect here and overseas (CEOs, doctors, lawyers) know who KRS is, i think youre underestimating his impact over the long career but thats my opinion peace

its not a science

of understanding and analyzing all aspects of reality,
you're getting close because you said the word "reality"

subjectively and objectively.
no decent teacher of philosophy is going to tell you that you can study reality objectively

Then using the conclusions to live your life in way that embodies higher awareness period, whether its how to think, how to analyze situations, how to interact with people, how to change you life, how to solve problems in general.
No, none of this has anything to do with metaphysics. Description is not a prescription, as they say.

Those are my favorite KRS albums, but I'm rounding that number. KRS hasn't made anything worthwhile in this millennium, yet he maintains that he's still the illest.

If philosophy is distilled to its basic definition, which is prolly point of view,
It's not.

he's self taught so he prolly mixes up his own concepts with orthodox philosophy.
You can go to university and get a thorough and rigorous and CHALLENGING education in philosophy and come out with unorthodox arguments.

KRS was never challenged by professors. He's spent many years totally convinced of his self-generated theories, which is not good for a thinker.

Remember when he had that debate with that hiphop/chess/islam guy (dont remember his name, he had a blog) and instead of debating with him, he just called him a federal agent and threatened to get "thuggish" with him?

I actually enjoy debating you because you're not just spouting nonsense. I was a sociology major, only took 1 and 200 level philosophy. But (and im sure you knew this) metaphysics has multiple definitions. its not just one thing, there's no agreement on what it defines exactly. so you knew that was a trick question ktulu but i did my best lol. i think he has attempted to employ philosophical arguments in his raps, but as far as metaphysics he prolly defined it himself which could lead to misstatements. i dont debate that. but being that hip-hop is not academia, and the audience was by and large not well educated, it was admirable for him to try to bring refreshing viewpoints in the name of philosophy or metaphysics. remember most of his fans esp back in the day weren't going to ever set foot in a college....oh the islam guy, well, he went to that pm dawn side of himself, thats the criminal minded krs lol. but if your repping higher thought, you got to leave that alone i guess....

well youre a gentleman and i enjoy debating with you as well, 1973

if i could get anybody in rap to feature on my album, it would be KRS-ONE

but if he came to the studio with some subpar lyrics, i would have to tell him to either re-write or get lost

i wont let KRS continue to embarrass himself on any album of mine
