Eminem is a direct beneficiary of White Privilege, in a country (system) dominated by White Supremacy. Why is it surprising to you when a White person says they don't like n!ggers? He, like so many of his peers and ancestors, are/were so consumed by race. Then you had (like with any race), your "good" who were more concerned about integrating us all together, and not separating us by n!ggers and the ideology that "white is right." If MLK, Rosa Parks, and Malcolm X allowed Eminem's kind to be the representation, then we'd all still be sitting in the back of the bus and drinking out of water fountains designated for "coloreds only."

The difference between Eminem and someone like Janis Joplin is that Janis was not consumed by color. When she was growing up, listening to Blues and Jazz and idolizing Bessie Smith and Billie Holiday, she never thought of it as "n!gger shit" , and never went on record on saying "She's only in this shit, to make a bigger hit."

I think Eminem is racist because he dropped the N word in a completely offensive and derogatory way...and in a way that was counter-productive to the art that he apparently has so much love and appreciation for. He apparently respects it, but refers to it as "n!gger shit."

Should Miles Davis be considered a racist when he became annoyed with an interviewer and stated "If somebody told me I only had an hour to live, I’d spend it choking a white man. I’d do it nice and slow." Of course not, yet there are people out there trying to reach for something when there is nothing to reach for. A picture of Elvis goofing around doesn't prove anything against the overwhelming evidence I provided against your original and ridiculous line of reasoning.

One could present the same argument for Eminem saying something stupid / shocking to put together a cheap rhyme, but the end result is he should have known better and considered the consequences down the line if/when he became famous, especially since he is a white man breaking into hip-hop. I don't think he's racist, there is too much out there stating otherwise, but it only takes one bad decision, especially a decision that is reflected in rhyme and is on tape for all to hear that will turn people against you. I don't have any sympathy for him, but this isn't some Oi band we're talking about here. The same goes for Elvis (joking around by wearing a hat) and Miles (his annoyance at the interviewer's questions resulting in his comment). As an educated adult, I am able to differentiate when someone is joking/saying something for effect and when they are serious and are filled with hate. Is Dave Chappelle racist for mocking certain points of white culture or does he hate his own race for mocking certain points of black culture? Not at all, and someone who is informed and isn't trying to impersonate your typical Fox News broadcast would be able to tell the difference between a joke and legitimate hate and bigotry, and why Dave Chappelle uses his style of humor to raise awareness.
