But let's shit on people's religions and belief systems. Seems admirable.
Homosexuality isn't a choice. Religion is. Just saying..
Not to say that we should reject either ( necessarily ), but one is genetic.
Sexual orientation is not a choice.
Being a man and having sex with a man is a choice..
Just like being a man and having sex with a woman is a choice.
There's evidence that suggests pedophilia is genetic as well. Is everything that's genetic acceptable? I'm not comparing pedophilia to homosexuality --one involves victims, one involves consenting adults(hopefully). That "born this way" argument is just pretty weak.
In order to make a choice you have to have options...what I'm saying is that for me there was never any other option than women in who I'm attracted to and it's always funny to me when people make the "choice" argument. At no point did I make a conscious choice to love women, it's just the wonderful thing my brain automatically led me to. Majority of people don't make a decision they just like whatever it is they like.
That's what I said tho..."sexual orientation is not a choice".
You can't control who you're attracted to. My point was that you can control who you have sex with. Personally I believe the denial of the right for gays to get married is good old fashioned American hypocrisy so I think gay people should absolutely be allowed to get married.
I'm not about to be out there marching and shit with them tho. Fuck all that
I was just commenting in general about the choice argument...but if you think it's not a choice then how can you say the "born that way" argument is weak though? That kind of contradicts itself. If it's not a choice then it's something you're born with...yeah there are some outside forces that can affect that decision but for the vast majority of people who we are attracted to is something we're most likely born with.
I meant that the "born this way" argument is weak when you're arguing against somebody who believes something is morally wrong. Like I said about pedophiles, there's evidence that shows that they're predisposed to be attracted to children. That doesn't mean it's okay. Or if you look at sociopaths or anything like that.
Again, not putting gays in the same category as all that but just using those examples to illustrate...even if you are born that way what does that have to do with it? If somebody believes that homosexuality is wrong then they don't give a shit if you were born that way or not.
