I think my Finding Forever comparison was kinda accurate also. Common used the Last Poets and J Ivy, Kendrick is doin spoken word, he has that MOTHAFUKIN SAXOPHONE killin it the first half of the album--- took me a while to notice its all throgh out, givin that jazz feel.

Butterfly is kinda like an early 2000s 213/Karrupt album x parliament x Outkast x Finding Forever x Black Messiah

So if kendrick overrated PLEASE tell me whose King of the Ring!

Nas of course is the all time king but Lupe Fiasco is ruling this year artistically.

Here's the issue with reviewing this shit:

I can't take a review seriously that tries to compare this to GKMC (and yes, I'm aware I said in a previous post upon first listen GKMC>>TPAB, so don't waste your time quoting it). Yeah, they're both by him, but this is a whole new direction.

Taking this album on face value, artistically this is a different lane, that only MBDTF has tried to cross into. Unfortunately, "the dumb are mostly intrigued by the drum" so sonically, that's where a lot of the criticisms come from. Not enough banging beats to ride out on or barely any real radio jams, except "i", "King Kunta", "Alright", or "These Walls."

"How Much a Dollar Cost" might be the most complete song on this album.

I still give this a 9/10....maybe a 9.25.

This clown ass discussion is exactly what I was talking about. I tried to actually analyze the album content and this is what it devolves into.

Now I know why niggas just keep it simple and say, "classic."

Guess the execs at interscope really believe in him after going platinum, hoping to repeat the cycle which I'm sure is on pace to do so based off the first week predictions. Few have the support from their label to have creative control like kendrick has. And on a major at that. So hats off to TDE. It's going to be interesting to see if radio promotes any of the songs even though this record is clearly not catered to their format.
