Keeping it real got killed by the word 'hater'.

Anytime someone calls a rapper out for something they get called a hater.

And dont get it misconstrued. There really are haters out there.

I care, shits important to me, because i still hold peoples word in high regard. Im not sayin a rapper cant change or grow up, thats life, i honestly expect that. But I do look for authenticity in your raps. I know niggas embellish, thats part of entertainment, shit we dont take movies literally, even biopics. But if a nigga is tellin me they lived a certain life style, i expect him to have done that. Its funny to me that niggas who do keep it real get ridiculed, ie jeezy, nobody has ever questioned his lifestyle, but niggas tellin him he need to stop trap rapping, meanwhile, rick ross, a man who probably did sell dope, but has blatantly fabricated his whole persona, ie, stealing a mans identity the claimin "he didnt know who he was", but he gets a huge pass because its only entertainment.

yeah i co-sign this. authenticity is important. but i still think there should be something like an artists freedom to express emotions and feelings thru lyrics that are maybe over the top a little bit. it's just the root of it has to be somehow authentic.

and i think people are telling jeezy to stop trap rapping because of sales, not because of the realness.

Real recognize Real.

If you are a white kid from Sweeden you might make a thread like this and attempt not to sound clueless, but your attempt will fail.

Keepin it real is feeding your family, friends, and city.
If you attempt to live through rap-lyrics or need evidence of another mans criminal activities then you are from Sweeden.

Real recognize real and a hustlers ambition supersedes all that corny ish these lames subscribe to...which is why your favorite "Real" rapper will do a song with the rapper you think is "Fake and both of those rappers will count their money and laugh in your face while you debate on what's real or not.

Squares are supposed to care, the rest of us are supposed to con.

Keeping it real does not mean to get money. To get money means to get money. To keep it real means to be honest with yourself and those who you want as your audience. I can lie about selling coke, killing niggas, and fucking nothing but models. But as long as I'm getting paid doing it, I'm keeping it real??

C'mon with that corny shit. If you a drug dealer, do you. If you're a gang member, do you. If you a square nigga working a 9-5, do you. One don't make you anymore real then the other, so why lie about it?! Fuck that entertainment excuse shit either, because if that was the case rappers wouldn't catch feelings every time they are called out. These niggas live eat and shit these personas they've created, not for entertainment either. But because they know they second they show the world who they really are, it simply won't match the music they make. So they believe that shit themselves, and surround themselves with enough real grimy niggas who actually do fit the description of their music to protect them and co-sign all the bullshit they feed to their fans.

Im still waitin on sum1 2 prove to me that Ross neva sold dope. As far as tha thread is concerned, as long as u not kissin or fukn anotha man i could careless. Nelly started out "tough" 2. If u pay attention to tha bars instead of skimmin thru, you'll realize that his 1 st single is bout keepn a pistal n smokn blunts.

Til this day I still have no clue how Country Grammar the song blew up so damn big...I can't remember what show i was watching but I heard one rapper call that song the "happiest drive by in rap music history" lol...that song is the definition of a catchy hook allowing all sorts of vulgar shit being allowed to be said lol...but I agree with the posters saying they don't really care...so long as you're not out trying to literally have me believe that you're still selling drugs and putting hits out on niggas while writing those 16 bars, you can talk about almost anything and so long as you can rap about it good with a nice beat and your flow is on point I can listen...

a rapper's real life has never really concerned me unless they make it a point to constantly say they draw from their real life for inspiration and even then you have to understand that rappers at the end of the day are WRITERS...they're paid to write about life which means they're going to take creative license in order to make it interesting and keep the listener's attention

music is supposed to be from the heart and soul of the artist. i think music like that is worth my money. all that other shit is an expression of corporate exploitation and low self-esteem on the part of the artists and the listener. i guess it aint all about the fake dope boy thing tho, cuz i dabble in the game and got to meet and kick it with a few "conscious" rappers and they was straight up niggerish. i mean i guess if being authentic isnt like personally or socially valued its unrealistic to expect it out of the music industry especially rapwise since it is a cash cow making it the most easily corrupted genre.
