06. Kanye West [ft. Dwele]

"POWER"

[Def Jam / Roc-A-Fella]

After the Taylor Swift Incident, Kanye West went briefly into hiding after apologizing and suggesting he would work on becoming a humbler, more even-keeled person. @kanyewest: LOL. "POWER", the first salvo of what would soon become his year, is an absolutely breathtaking piece of egotism, even for a genre that's fueled by bravado and narcissism. Aptly self-described as superhero theme music, the track establishes a power-clap beat as heavy as Ye's Horus medallion before gliding through a high-speed tour of his musical evolution (the militant chants of "Jesus Walks", the moody piano and strings of 808s & Heartbreak). But it's a multi-part suite that loses none of its menace in its complexity, and a look back that sounds entirely forward thinking.

If those aren't enough contradictions for you, the only thing as powerful as Kanye's sense of self-worth is his self-doubt-- listen again to the chorus, which is simultaneously boastful, condemning, and anxious. It's this endless competition that makes him so fascinating both on-stage and off, and "POWER" might as well be the theme music for that psychological warfare as well. Whether self-diagnosing himself through the medium of King Crimson samples or indulging a suicide fantasy in the song's final segment, "POWER" darts from mania to depression and back again as quickly as its distorted MPC sample pings around your headphones. It's all of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy's pathology and genius in digest form, the vicarious, timeless thrill of hearing a crazy talented person act crazy and talented. --Rob Mitchum

02. Kanye West [ft. Pusha T]

"Runaway"

[Def Jam / Roc-A-Fella]

Of all the arresting moments on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy-- Nicki Minaj mauling the competition on "Monster", the King Crimson call-and-response of "POWER"-- none is more striking than that instant when the head-spinning, hallucinatory soul of "Devil in a New Dress" dissolves into the sobering piano-tapped intro to "Runaway". It's the sound of Kanye's entire over-Tweeted, Lanvin-lavished, Dubya-dissing universe reduced to one single, lonely chord.

On an album situated perilously on the faultline between ego and insecurity, "Runaway" puts Kanye's contradictory impulses on full display like they're some immaculate museum exhibit. At nine minutes, it is My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy's longest song, but also its simplest and most emotionally direct. It's a sensitive piano ballad inspired by a moment of dick-pic exhibitionism. It's a chronicle of post-breakup depression and regret that, by the time we hit that ubiquitous chorus, has been reframed as a celebration-- and the more Kanye venerates his most loathsome qualities, the more humble and sympathetic a character he becomes. As his recent Tweet-athons about Matt Lauer and Taylor Swift suggest, Kanye tends to get defensive when his dubious behavior is called into question. "Runaway" marks the rare moment where Kanye sides with his detractors-- if the whole world thinks he's a douchebag, well, this one time he's inclined to agree. --Stuart Berman

The vocals on 'All Of The Lights' I heard in this order:

The Dream
Rihanna
Kid CuDi
Fergie
Elton John
Alicia Keys...

Those are who I grasped.

Actually I wasn't excited to much when listening to the New Kanye's Album. His first 3 albums were just gold. But I think it's just Kanye changing with the time. You can do nothing with that

Billboard Top 10 Albums of 2010

Guess....

At Number 1.........

Kanye West, "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy"
When the dust cleared from his Twitter rants, GOOD Fridays, douchebag-toasting performances and 35-minute music videos, Kanye West left us with a spectacular "Fantasy" and his best album yet. The button-pushing rapper pushed musical boundaries on his fifth effort, effortlessly hopscotching between tribal chants ("Power"), pitch-black posse cuts ("So Appalled"), fuzzed-out rock ("Gorgeous") and breathless pop ("All of the Lights"). On "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy," Yeezy taught us that you can be a boisterous celebrity as much as you want, as long as you deliver an album as incredible as this one.

The album is good, not great.

His singing is wack as hell though, he needs to cut that shit out seriously.

1st I'd like to thank the Mods and All Hip Hop for making this a sticky for the last 2 months. I think the thread was a good thread and one the best i've made up here. I decided not to post my written review cause honestly, I didn't say anything that hasn't already been said about the album on the media. But here is a cliff notes version. I have only one complaint. It was a little too Callabo heavy. I understand why KanYe had a lot of callabo's though.

After a horrible year he actually needed some shoulders to cry on and some friends to lean on. The album callabo's remind me of a Dr Dre, Puffy or Timbaland album. Yes KanYe is a producer/rapper like them. But he's actually a real rapper unlike them. So I was surprised when artist like Pusta T, Jay Z and Rick Ross end up on more than one song and the fact KanYe made his own version of "We are the World" by having 10 people on one song. So again KanYe, cut down the callabos on the next album. But that's wasn't enough to hurt the album. But here is my song by song Mic Rating:

Dark Fantasy - 5 MICS (The Nicki intro, the Beat, two solid verses and an amazing sample. Great Track)

Gorgeous - 4.5 MICS (Love the beat, Kudi does a great job on the hook. Chef could of came a little harder but his verse was still good)

Power - 5 MICS (One of the best singles of KanYe's career, it goes with Classics like "Can't Tell Me Nothing", "Diamonds" and "Through the Wire")

All of the Lights Intro - 5 MICS (One Word, Beautiful)

All of The Lights - 5 MICS (It's just an epic song and KanYe showed that people do respect his artistry)

Monster - 4.5 MICS (Everyone came hard, Yes even Nicki, her verse grew on me but I'm still not blown away as many acted when it dropped. But it's a dope posse cut none the less)

So Appalled - 5 MICS (Easily my favorite track of the "G.O.O.D. Friday" leaks. Everyone came tight on this and the beat is so cinematic. Jay and Ye killed it though)

Devil in a New Dress - 5 MICS (Vintage KanYe right here, pounding drums, dope soul sample. Ross added a nice element though I actually like the version with just Ye on it.)

Runaway - 5 MICS (I mean at it's core it's a very basic and simple beat but the music and lyrics are very powerful. Also this gets 5 MICS cause the Video was just amazing and makes the song even more ILL cause you can picture the visuals when you listen to it)

Hell of a Life - 3.5 MICS (This was the weak link of the album to me. I don't know I just didn't feel it like that. Not a horrible or bad song but not a great on either. I do like the hood though)

"Blame Game" - 5 MICS (I just love this song, Chris Rock was funny as hell. )

Lost in the World - 4 MICS (Great sample, had a very "808's" vibe to it, but it's dope)

Who Will Survive In America - 4 MICS (Great way to end the album, love the speech at the end)

#1. College Dropout - 5 MICS
#2. Late Registration - 4.5 MICS
#3. My Dark Beautiful Twisted Fantasy - 4.5 MICS
#4. Graduation - 4 MICS
#5. 808's and Heartbreak - 3.5 MICS

So I have it ranked right after Ye's 1st two. I think it and "Late Registration" could be a toss up, but I give "LR" the slight edge. "CD" is still his best album. Overall, as a Ye' fan and a Hip Hop fan. KanYe made me proud of this genre. I expect they will be talking about this album for years to come. One thing is for sure, NO RAP ALBUM IS 2010 IS BETTER THAN KANYE'S ALBUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My favorite Cover is the Sword and the Crown laying the grass cover, dope:

Pitchfork's Top 50 albums of 2010

01. Kanye West

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

[Def Jam/Roc-A-Fella]

Buy on Amazon MP3

Bearing witness to Kanye West's very public 2010 has featured many joys, none greater than watching everyone unspool his myriad updates, achievements, and indiscretions into piles of meaning. His persona went to cataclysmic places this year-- there were times when he deserved his own cable news ticker. But, somehow, West managed to transcend the preposterous talk show appearances, the too-good-to-be-true Twitter account, the live breakdowns, the Horus chain, the free-MP3 stunt(ing), the press blitz, the breakups, the make-ups, the dick pics, the furniture pornography, the Rosewood movement, the NO NEGATIVE BLOG VIEWING, the living paintings, the short film, and the rest of the lot. Through all that noise, we obsessed first and most deeply over the eye of the storm: the album. --Sean Fennessey

LOL this isn't album related but..........

Kanye West Named MTV Man Of The Year

Kanye just got an ego boost today as MTV has named him their Man of the Year. You’d be hard press to argue that. Not too many other rappers can piss off a former President, a television network, and still manage to put out one of 2010′s best albums. Congratulations, ‘Ye.

Nigga beat out Justine Bieber and Eminem lolllll
