When Cani was in his prime, no one was seeing him. He destroyed pretty much every lyricist that was brave enough to get on a track with him, even the great ones (Nas, Pun, Common, Mos, Rakim) with the exception of G. Rap and maybe Killah Priest. Most tru hip hop folks know em based his style on been white Canibus with more shock

Right now, there are a few dope lyricists that have taken notes from Canibus- the entire Slaughtehouse crew, esp. Crooked I, Joel, Royce, Stimuli, Term, j. cole.

I still maintain that Canibus is the illest lyricist I ever heard- when I hear Poet Laurate 2, Bis vs Rip, 1000 bars, the entire Mic Club and 2000 BC albums. What he was spitting at that time was simply ahead of his time. Mind boggling stuff.

Poet laureate 2 is one of the best lyrical performances of all time. And what makes it great is that it's an actual story not just random lyrics

Canibus is the only rapper who I believe would be found to be a genius if tested. Dude is fucking brilliant, goes beyond rap. He's the only rapper who I admit goes over my head sometimes, When Poet Lauriete 2 came out I was 12, I think, and I had to read the lyrics while i was listening cuz I just didn't get it the first few times
