Its pretty obvious Jay-z was saying he started saying swag before it became the most overused term in hip hop. He even referenced when he first used the term in the following bar, "I guess I got my swagger back...." truth. He first said it on Blueprint - All I need back in 2001. I dont recall the word being used before that in hip hop so I'd say theres some truth to that statement.

And lol at yall thinking swag has anything to do with how you dress. Swagger is about how you carry yourself, you cant buy it at a store. Any lame ass nigga with a steady job can walk into Nordstrom and buy some expensive attire, that does mean they have swag...
